HK416 in use w/U.S. military

Are any U.S. troops using the HK416/M16 hybrid rifle now? About a year ago there was some talk about this.
Also, any chance that this gun will ever be offered for civilian use as a semi-auto?

I have not heard of anyone being issued the HK system. Probably the most likely candidate would be Special Forces, but they just adopted the SCAR platform so I wouldn't think they would be using it.
As for it being offered for civilian sales, I believe that HK has no plans to offer it for sale to civilians, but I have no official sources on this.

416 is just a gas piston upper. They are already selling them in shotgun news from what I can tell. If your lower is semiauto, the gun will be semiauto.
If it turns out to be semi-affordable, this could be a SCAR killer since it reuses the enormous supply of lowers already in existance rather than requiring a new design.

HK not only has no plans to offer the 416 for civilian sale but they are doing their best to get back the ones that did make them into civilian hands. There were a few semi-autos bought and delivered to civilians including some on HKPro back when it first came out, but HK is fighting mad about it and claims it was all a mistake.
HK never offered the G36 as a civilian legal rifle either and discontinued the SL8 when a 3rd party company (Special Weapons?) started doing the conversions on them. Not only that but since HK has built its factory in GA, they haven't offered any of their roller locks for civilian sale either. Anyone care to guess what HK feels about their civilian customers?

Theyre a bunch of fascist pricks IMO, and I wont buy a USP because of it. THey could easily start selling to civilians, but they are too cozy with the government to risk angering a future anti-gun administration.
