Mexican Police Arrest Four Illegal Iraqis
http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/01/30/D8FF5CDG0.html

Mexican federal agents have arrested four Iraqis trying to sneak into the United States without proper documents, the government said Monday.

Wasim Francis Schamoun and Ivan Yalda, both 23, and Refon Chlil Oraha and Thaer Salem Yelda, both 27, were found on a bus in the northern city of Navajoa after police received an anonymous tip, the attorney general's office said in a statement.

The Iraqis were in Mexico illegally, the statement said.

Officials on Monday said they were investigating the background of the four and trying to determine how they got into Mexico. The four have family names that are common among Iraq's minority Christian community.

Many undocumented Iraqi nationals have been captured in Mexico en route to the U.S. border. None has been found to have had any links to terrorism.

My comment;

Considering the past record of interdiction, that means probably how many HAVE gotten through and are...somewhere in the US?

Yes, it's a bad sign that folks can get all the way to this side of the world and try to cross the border, but it's pretty likely that this group wasn't a threat.

Iraqi Christians (either the Chaldeans or Assyrians) are most likely just wanting to get the heck out of Iraq and find a job in a Chaldean-run liquor store in San Diego. Heck, I'd say the average Kaldani/Ashuri is probably less of a threat than most any other nationals sneaking across. The shop where I used to buy beer in San Diego was run by Kaldanis, I kept meaning to go visit their church over in the El Tejon suburb.

But if they can sneak in, their radicalized neighbor can probably do the same thing, so I agree that it's bad in principle.

Just wanted to put in a good word for the Chaldeans; they run a good suds-shop, and they were good workers in Iraq. Lumping them in with Arab Muslims is inaccurate, and I'm sure they wouldn't appreciate it. Iraq has around a dozen major groups, only one really hates us, and another is kinda ticked at us, but the Kurds/Turcomans/Yezidi/Chaldeans/Assyirans/Mandeans/Pars/etc are just trying to get by.

What's a few potential terrorists when million of dollars in cheap labor and cheaper votes are in play? I wonder if GWB will be talking about this in his State of the Union speech tomorrow night. Hmmm.

So what? They're just refugees-victims of an illegal and immoral war and occupation of their homeland. They're coming here for work, to do the jobs Americans won't do. Show some compassion.

Assuming that you're being facetious:

Seriously, if we're going to let anybody at all into the country, why not Iraqi Chaldeans and Assyrians?

They're persecuted for their religion (Catholic and Orthodox Christianity, respectively), they support us in the war in Iraq, they have strong immigrant communities where they find immediate gainful employment, and (coincidentally) their religious and cultural values are easy to assimilate into American culture.

Yes, I'd greatly prefer that they did things the legal route by applying for Refugee Status, but compared to all the other folks in the world who could be showing up on our doorstep, they're pretty good people.

I predict he'll say that immigration is going just fine, same old BS rhetoric about them taking jobs Americans won't do, makes economy stronger, yeah, whatever.

He'll also mention 9/11 and Iraq in terms of tying them together at least five times, while suddenly calling bin Laden a threat again...but he won't be a threat in a month, again. Then he will be. Then he won't be. Then he will be.

Or he'll just say "we are securing our borders!"...without further explanation, just a clap-for-me grin.

I don't predict anything new.

If he does talk about it, it will be to decry the "vigilante tactics" of the Minutemen.

I'm telling you that they will smuggle the terrorists in bales of marijuana. If it hasnt been done already.

There is so much contrand coming over here already that it is only a matter of putting bad contraband inside of good contraband for which bribes have already been paid.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush says Bill Clinton has become so close to his father that the Democratic former president is like a member of the family.

Former President George Bush has worked with Clinton to raise money for victims of the Asian tsunami and the hurricane disaster along the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Asked about his father and Clinton, Bush quipped, "Yes, he and my new brother."

"That's a good relationship. It's a fun relationship to watch," Bush said in an interview with CBS News broadcast on Sunday.

While attending Pope John Paul's funeral, Bush said, "It was fun to see the interplay between dad and Clinton. One of these days, I'll be a member of the ex-president's club. ... I'll be looking for something to do."

He said ex-presidents share rare experiences that others cannot understand. "And so I can understand why ex-presidents are able to put aside old differences," he said.

Bush said he checked in with Clinton occasionally.

"And you know, he says things that makes it obvious -- that makes it obvious to me that we're kind of, you know, on the same wavelength about the job of the presidency. Makes sense, after all, there's this kind of commonality," he said.

Bush jokingly referred to speculation that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, the former president's wife, will seek the Democratic nomination for the presidency. He had earlier referred to the former first lady as "formidable."

"Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton," he said, referring to how Bill Clinton had followed his father, and Hillary Clinton could follow him.

Well, all of this is a laughing matter to Mr Bush. Life has been bery, bery good to George so far, what's not to laugh at? But he can't seem for the life of him to figure out why those of who oppose illegal immigration are so damn MEAN. Good people, let 'em in, let 'em in, plenty o' room.

Bush and Clinton?

If you think about it, it makes perfect sense:
1) Both are globalist liberals
2) Clinton did NAFTA, Bush did CAFTA
3) Both evaded Vietnam
4) Both pay no attention to immigration

I can see them singing karaoke together.

Bleh.

You know, that whole speech posted by Longeyes really makes me sick.

Bush apparently thinks this is all some kind of big joke. The more he talks, the more it is clear he is an idiot. I don't mean that more as a statement of the obvious than as an insult. Why can't his own people just tell him to shut up when he starts running his mouth like that?

There is no way I could be friends with someone who is diametrically opposed to my politics and world viewpoint. If the Bushes can do it, it is because they are not so different from the Clintons after all.

I voted for Bush twice. I apologize.

Well, I'm not. There is a big, sloppy war going on over there, and guess what? One of the consequences of every stupid war we get into is we get to adopt a huge population of the losers.

I guess we'll have "Little Baghdad" in every city right next to "Little Saigon."

Our theory is supposed to be fight 'em over there so we don't have to fight 'em over here. Meanwhile, we are ignoring the transformation of our society slowly but surely into something unrecognizable, with the political legacy of core American principles ignored and diluted. Globalism doesn't care about the Bill of Rights.

He thinks a lot of things are a big joke. Remember the "No WMDs here!" snickering while looking behind chairs in the office? I was really sure, at the time, that any soliders stuck Over There right now, perhaps having just lost a buddy to an IED, found that hilarious. Wars are so FUNNY, George!
