Ok, my brothers best friend is this young guy who is kind of one of those up ad coming movie maker genius types.

He went to film school (SCC?) and was pretty much the star student - met Spielberg, did all this stuff.

The cool part is he is relatively conservative and a very decent guy. He has written a couple scripts and one is going into production with several big names signed on already and he has some more in the pipe. He is getting an advance from a studio for his current project so he is for real.

Well, my brother scored one of his films when he was in school (he is a great composer) and his friend collaborates with him sometimes for script ideas.

I was talking to my brother and he said that the area they are weakes is gun play. They are not really sure what is realistic, or what certain guns can do and what kind of gun a certain person is likely to have.

He said his friend wants to talk with me about some of the ideas he has and to help him with realism.

Not sure I will get a film credit because he is just writing a screen play this time, but maybe in the future :) Hey - a guy can dream can't he?

Would never be a full time thing, and I don't think there is money involved, it just sounds really cool.

Anyone know anyone who ever did anything like that? Worked in TV or movies, etc?

Yeah, I feel like a dork for posting it, but I just thought it was too cool to keep to my self.

Seize the opportunity. You never know where it can lead.

Nah, not a dork.

I cringe to see/hear what hollywood knows about firearms (Ceramic Glocks alá Die Hard II anyone?) and I think that having someone consult that actually KNOWS what they're talking about would be very cool.

That is... assuming you *DO* know what you're talking about? :D

Thunder Ranch should be a cold slap of reality.

If you do get to be a tech consultant, think safety rules and not what looks cool.

Thunder Ranch should be a cold slap of reality.

Now that is an excellent idea.

It should be manditory for any film maker with a screen play that involves over a certain percentage of gunplay, that they attend, or, be *embededded* at Thunder Ranch or similiar for a period of a couple weeks.

Might do wonders.

Well, this is more on the idea level than the production level - at least at this point.

I am pretty sure I am not qualified to work at the production level and I would not try to represent that I am.

However, in this script, one of the characters is from Mexico - I told them that if he had a gun in Mexico, it would not be in a military caliber - a 1911 in 38-super would not be unlikley.

Stuff like that.

I am not sure what kind of shooting is available in Mexico - but I know silhouette shooting originated there.

Not sure if it is still a sport there, but I thought something that hinted at experience in that area might add a modicum of authenticity in a subtle way.

Stuff like that...

Heh, if you can do one thing, it's make notes all over the script for all the brain-dead directors that have actors pointing automatics at each other threateningly - with the slides locked back.

That's my current movie pet-peeve. :)
