What companies have reasonably priced riders?
Thanks.

USAA covers up to $4000 in guns without adding a rider. If your collection is valued above that then yes, a higher coverage is available.

Marshall;
The least expensive firearms insurance that I know of is the $2,500.00 coverage that comes with your NRA membership. Not 'available to members'; with.
Over & above that, I choose safe, but then I'm in that business.

USAA is only for $2,000 if you're using renter's insurance and not homeowner's.

And the USAA reps I've talked to have been as casual about firearm riders as they have with waterbed riders.
But, I think you have to be full-time military to sign up with USAA, or have they changed that?

I believe retired/discharged military, as well as children of members qualify. That's how I got in; my grandfather is a retired colonel, Army Corp of Engineers and a USAA member, so my father joined, and because he's a member I qualified. :p When I was in the military USAA was officers only. I've been a member since 1989.
Check here (https://www.usaa.com/inet/gas_corp/CpMemberEligibility) to find out if you're eligible for membership.
USAA (http://www.usaa.com) is one of the finest organizations I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. My car loans, insurance (car, life, & home), IRA, checking/savings accounts and Mastercard are through them. As with the gun insurance, the benefits rock. :)

I have State Farm Insurance on my home and have a rider through them for my firearms. I just looked up the cost and it is $101.46 every 6 months for a coverage of $22,500. I feel this is a reasonable charge for the coverage I have. I have to supply them with a list of firearms covered with the discriptions and serial numbers.

+1. If you or your parents ever served in the armed forces and you are not a USAA member it is more than worth the trouble to try and join. Once you are a member it gets "passed around" pretty easily, so your spouse and children can become members too, and then your grandchildren, etc.

I'm a USAA member because my mother (Lt. Cdr., retired from the Coast Guard) joined when she was active in the military.

You may want to look into it. The eligibility web pages have a slot for retired military. It asks retirement date, officer/enlisted, rank at seperation, etc.

AFIA has better firearm coverage IMO. I could not affrord the USAA firearms rider. Would have preferred USAA but no dice.

Allstate's home owner's insurance includes up to $5,000 for firearms. No information on the firearms is required.
I don't know what the cost is for coverage over 5K.

Well, I have just gone through a divorce and have had to move into an apartment for a while. My guns came with me so I needed to do something about it.
I checked into USAA and I do not qualify even though my dad was in Korea. He was not a commissioned officer and as I understand it from USAA's rep, they must have been.
I wrote State Farm a check today for a small $20,000 personal property and $300,000 liability policy that encompasses $2,500 in firearms. A measly $8 bucks upped it to $5,000. The whole policy was $230 for a year. Not too bad. It won't cover all my guns but for now it beats nothing. I'm storing some at my folks house until I move somewhere permanent, or less temporary. Frankly I didn't want all my eggs in one basket.
Thanks again. Maybe this info will in turn help someone else who's renting.

Wow, that's seems like excellent coverage for an excellent price. Say, another $100-$200 for a gun safe and your guns are relatively secure.

Bummer! Is your father still around? He may be able to apply, and then you'd be eligible. YMMV

Definately a good buy. Congrats on finding the coverage!

if you can get it...it's the best (according to Consumer Reports).
Used to be Officers only....they opened it up to all active duty members a couple years back.

No, he's not. I lost him in a plane crash in '72, I was 13 at the time. I'm satisfied with the State Farm deal and have a little peace of mind now so I'm good to go. :)
