I have the opportunity to pick up a used Mossberg 144LSB in a 98% good condition for $299+$25 for shipping. The problem is that it doesn't come with a rear peep sight, but I imagine one could be found on ebay or elsewhere. Is this a good deal?

Thanks!

That sounds on the high end of reasonable for a pretty good rifle. I have a few Mossberg rifles and they are all nice and still pretty accurate. If it strikes your fancy, then get it. But if it is lacking the rear peep sight I might use that to try to negotiate a lower price.

Vic and Cheryl Havlin probably have the best supply of older Mossberg parts. I'd try them first at:

You can use them to check on the price of the rear sight and ask the seller if they would discount the rifle that much.

Good luck. And please let me know how you make out.

Thanks for the link, Fprice. It looks like the rear peep sight would cost about $75, so it's perhaps not such a good deal. There's another 144LSB in excellent condition and complete sights listed for $350 on gunsamerica. I'm still torn between it, a Biathlon Basic or a CZ-452 varmint, so I guess I'll have to check out the gun show in Pasadena TX this weekend. :D

Stephen,

Good luck. I like the Mossberg but the CZ would be a good choice also.
