The 618FA is great, I have one on my Remington 870P MAX...really good piece of gear. Very solid, I have not had any problems with it while shooting. You might hear that the recoil will damage the light, but I have not experienced that. However, if you're going to be shooting it A LOT, you might consider unscrewing the light from the forend.

I can only comment on the 618FA that currently resides on an older 870 Express. I absolutely love it!
I think that this light is almost too bright sometimes (if that's possible in a weapon mounted light :D ). So if the 918, which I am not familiar with, is even brighter then I would definitely stay away from it.

Huh? Too bright? I use a 918 with an added Turbo head on my go to war 870 and it's ALMOST bright enough!

I have the 618FA and can compare brightness with my 9P handheld light. For in-house distances, the 618FA is fine, if not perfect. Where the 9V unit would help is in longer distances, and I mean 25 yards on out.
Although the weight difference should be minimal, I already don't like the weight of the 618FA out there, but it's a compromise to have light. The 918FA will weigh just that extra 1+oz. more, and be a bit longer too.
To sum up, the 618FA will be fine.
