I don't understand? You are describing the speed feed feature that makes the post WW2 A-5s superior? This is how they work ; If the action is locked open the shell pushed into the magazine tube is whisked into chamber and the bolt closes. IF you throw the magazine cut off lever on the front left side of the reciever the magazine won't feed any shells. This is useful when a chambered load is desired to be changed by throwing the lever and opening the action and ejecting shell and then feeding another shell into bottom (like a slug for instance) which is whisked to chamber and the bolt drops. Nothing will feed from the mag if the cutoff is thrown forward. PLEASE PUT THE SAFETY ON AND ALWAYS KEEP THE MUZZLE IN A SAFE DIRECTION WHEN DOING ANY OF THE ABOVE AND USE DUMMY AMMO (snap caps)until you learn the manual of arms for your gun!:uhoh: :uhoh:

Ok with the action closed...there is a shell located beneath it...not in the mag tub but the action itself.

This is an extremely dangerous problem and i need your alls help in correcting it...please...guess what i really need to know is how to get the mag tube out so i can remove the shell stuck below the closed action.

Can you open the chamber? Is there a shell in the chamber?:uhoh:

negative no shell in the chamber thankfully...just one in the tube and one stuck beneath the action...its preventing the opening of the action all the way.

well my friend got the shell out of the action and the tube after i went to bed...unfortunately the spring in the mag tube shot out the other (read tapered) end and i think my shotguns life has come to an end or at the very least wont fire for awhile. :(

Shooter,

Whoa, slow down.

If you've gotten the shell(s) out of the magazine and the shell out from under the bolt that was jamming the action, it sounds to me as if the gun has been fixed enough. Why do you want to take the magazine tube out too? I don't think you are supposed to do that... .

There should be a cup shaped spring steel retainer that keeps the magazine spring in the magazine tube when the magazine cap is removed. Likely your friend was a little too successful at getting the retainer out and launched the magazine spring. Hey, it happens- but it's no big deal, other than the excitement it provokes. BTDT my own self. Take a look at the manual at http://www.bowtools.com/Articles/Gun_Manuals/Browning_Auto-5_Light.pdf or the schematic at http://www.urban-armory.com/diagrams/brnga5.htm . The part I am talking about is Part No. 1330 in the schematic.

Just find the retainer, or replace it with another one (you can still get A-5 parts). Put the gun back together and be sure you get the shells you are loading all the way into the magazine tube past the shell stop. If the gun is older and somewhat worn it may not have been a case of not getting the shell all the way into the magazine- the shell stop may be worn, and/or fouling may be interfering with its movement. If that's the case then letting a 'smith work on it at this point might be a good idea.

Sorry for getting a little excited last night. This shotgun is something that was passed to me by my dad. Its the only true gun my dad ever liked and i get wound up easily when something happens to it. Again i apologize...

Much appreciation,
Josh

Ok i have no idea how to get this thing back together. The piece that held the spring in the tub is too big to go back through the mag hole. The mag tube is tapered so that it can only go one way. Any ideas on how to get it back in there?
