Has anyone here used 140 grain JHPs for .357 loads.

I haven't but I am curious about how they work.

It has been some years since I loaded 140 gr. JHP in 357 but I found my notes on the assembly and components used.

Brass was WW once fired, with CCI small pistol primers. Powder used was Hercules Blujedot starting at 13 gr. and topping out at 14.3 gr. I didn't have a chrono. but when the 14.3 gr. load started exhibiting signs of excess pressure, (flattened primers along with cratering of the primers, and hard empty case extraction), I backed off and settled on 14.0 gr. This eliminated the primer cratering and the hard extraction but still left the primers flattened. Accuracy was noted as acceptable, which meant for me keeping all shots in the 8 ring at 25 yds. Recoil was noted as stout but acceptable.

The best I can remember, the 125 gr JHP with the same components and 14.5 gr of Bluedot gave better accuracy and considerably less recoil

hope this helps.

The 140's in .357 do OK with Blue Dot, and do great with H-110.

I've had better resultswith the Speer bullets than with Remington in this weight.

140g XTP-HP, mag primer, Redding Profile Crimp ('heavy'), H110 (start at 18.0g; my bests are at 19.0g).
Fast and straight.
