I've been hearing good things about Mueller and I'm really considering getting their 3-9x40 illuminated sport dot for $170. For that price it's hard to pass up but I've rarely encountered a high quality optic that's cheap. Anyone got any first hand experience with Mueller to enlighten me?

I've heard some good things, too.

You're right though - a $170 scope if probably never going have the optical quality of a $1500 Swarovski scope - but it very well may be good enough for the application. Not everyone can afford, nor need, $1500 of optics on each and every gun they own.

Here's a review to check out:

I have a couple, they're cheap and the optics are "ok", sure nothing to brag about.

They appear to be durable though. For hunting work they should be fine.

They're not a high quality scope, fuzzy around the edges of lens and long range resolution is only fair.

More the money they're should be ok.

When they were cheaper they looked like a reasonable deal. It seems to me at the new price you're in range of a Burris FFII which is a very good scope for the money, I've seen them new recently for $169-199.

What intrigued me is the illuminated reticle. I want an optic for my PTR-91 that is capable in low light and semi-darkness. I've earmarked the ACOG for this task but lack of funds won't allow it right now. I'd like to find something in the $300 and below range to temporarily fulfill this mission.
