Looking for both the barrel and services.

i know Fulton Armory.

Springfield, Inc supposedly does it, but I can't find any information.

Who else? Experiences helpful.

Did I mention that I'm cheap. Ordered a rack grade from the CMP and am biding my time til it gets here. So reading, doing research before I see how it shoots.

Thanks in Advance.

Don't know, but I am probably getting a rack grade as well (whenever the IRS gives me back my money) and am interested in this as well.

Check over at Culver Gun Talk, www.jouster.com

The Garand brotherhood congregates there and you will find what you are looking for.

I did my own about a year ago with a CMP Criterion barrel.

I got a CMP Criterion barrel and found a local gunsmith to do it for me.

I walked into his shop and he had more M1s and 1903's than anything else, so I knew I had found someone familiar with what I wanted. No complaints, and cheaper than the big guys.

For M1 barreling and other services:

Tim Strait aka Warbird @ Warbirds Custom Guns
Dean Dilabaugh @ Deans Gun Restorations
Ronnie Morris @ Match Service Works

I've had Ronnie Morris build a .308 Match Grade M1 about 4 years ago. It's been a 100% rifle for over 3000 rounds. Good work. Good prices. Decent turnaround.

Springfield doesn't list gunsmithing services on their site.

Here's a quote from an e-mail I recieved from them....

we offer the Standard M1 barrel installed for $209.00; the
National Match (Carbon) barrel for $259.00; the National Match
(Stainless) for $336.00 and the Ultra Match for $322.88.

I'm planning on picking up 3 rackers (one ofr each of my sons and one for me) and will ship them off to Springfield for a re-barrel job and re-park for 75 bones. The standard barrel isn'tmil taper so you can't use it in Garand matches, but I understand the NM is.......

If you're looking to get an M1 rebarreled (or other M1 work done), I know of no one better than Earl Hickman at Hickman Rifles (719 633-4680) in Colorado Springs. He's a full time gunsmith/machinist, and he does great work. It turns out that the Garand is his specialty...

On top of that, his work is pretty reasonably priced...

(He posts under 'Dusty Springfield' over on CSP (jouster.com))...
