Did Colt ever make a M14?

On my dads police report back in 96 I am going through it says something about a COLT m14 Rifle. My friend claims COLT never made a M14 and it was most likely mislabeled as springfield. I can't find anything regarding Colt ever making a M14 on google except a modification for the game halflife where users call it a COLT m14. The only other search I came up with was a COLT m/14 which looks like maybe a M1911 variant? Can anyone verify this?

The oringal M14s were made by the now defunct Springfield Armory; the government arsenal, not the commerical company of the same name. I think some might have been made by H&R, too.
Colt manufactured a lot of the early M16s, with less being made by H&R, GM Hydra-Matic, and other companies.

Colt never made M14s, either military or civilian.
The military M14 was produced by the following -
U. S. Army Springfield Armory,
Winchester (Olin-Mathieson Chemical Corp.),
Harrington & Richardson Arms Co.,
Thompson-Ramo-Wooldridge (TRW)
Several "aftermarket" receiver makers produced rifles on their receivers with surplus parts or parts of their manufacture. These include -
Sprinfield Armory, Inc.
Norinco
Polytech
Federal Ordinance
Armscorp
etc.

Maybe it was a misprint on the police report? I have pictures of it.

Likely a typo, with Colt M-4 intended.

or for a "way out there" theory, IF and only IF the gun in question is a confiscated/found item in said report, maybe it's a misidentification of a Colt "monitor" auto rifle (aka a BAR made by colt, for LE use prior to WW2) to some folks there is a resemblance, and a non-familiar/non-gunny type be it LEO or not, might make the mistake.
granted the theory of an M-4 makes more sense than mine but since i have a weird mind this is the one the popped into MY head.
in other words commence with the pictures ;) :D

I'm not going to go into details. I was like 10 years old when he got arrested. I am pretty sure he didn't have a M4 but he had maybe 3 rifles. I only recall quite a bit of handuns as well.
