WARNING: THESE REVOLVERS CAN BE ADICTIVE! Older model 64/4” revolvers were made on the square-butt frame. Two and three inch variants on the round-butt frame. The 64-5 were round butt after 1996 in all barrel lengths, as are new guns today. Model 10/4” with a round-butt frame are not uncommon.

I got a nice one I am trying to get rid of.
It may have a slight problem however - I think someone loosened the hammer spring a tad too much. Most ammo is not a problem though.
Anyway - I too my FIL out today and he shoot 300 rounds through it and loved it.

John, you can find the 4 inch/RB guns if you look. You can also have the SB cut to a RB or get the template from Brownells and do it your self.

Look no further than a model 15, the Combat Masterpiece -- they come with 4" barrels, with adjustable rear sights and ramp front sights.
They sell in the $200s

Thanks all. Talked to my gunsmith yesterday and turning SB to round is expensive, still I just can't bring myself to "cut" this pistol.
Think I'll round out and finish a set of oversized target grips.
Anyway, another pistol is coming I can smell it. What fun.

John, I did a M65 myself and it wasn't hard. Tedious, not hard.

I love S&W M/P revolvers! The last one I bought, was a 4" HB Model 64-5 SB Detroit Police trade in. The gun it's self looked unfired, but the grips were a little beat up.

Have been looking at a 4" M&P with a spurless hammer, built in 1950 , carried a lot and still tight, for $150--$160. With a fantastic trigger job. Could be a neat carry. Would you carry something like this in this day of hi-cap Glock 17's ?

"Would you carry something like this in this day of high-cap Glock..."
I would, I have, and I do.
I carry a revolver about 99% of the time, normally a J-frame 5-shot .38 Spl., but I do also carry a K-frame Model 19 2.5" .357 Mag.

It's a square butt, circa 1989.:)

Yes, I would. Right now I'm using a CZ100 for CCW, BUT I have had one or two malfunctions. The last one was of the dreaded
"double feed" variety. Pistol was tied up quite awhile.
Seems every autoloader I've tried has dropped the ball one way or another. This has never happened to me with any wheelgun
I've owned. Ever. Hence my latest foray back to revolvers.
My Dads used 2" M10 did bind up. It was the result of some really bad smithing and a terrible nickle job. We removed the pitted areas and end of problem.
Right now I'm still testing the CZ but keeping an eye out for a snubbie M10 or 5 shot M36 or so. We'll see...
