Are Simmons Binoculars Any Good?

I see these on sale cheap - I'm talking $20 for 8x40 binoculars, $15 for 7x35, $10 for the mini 12x25. Are these worth picking up, or are they junk?

At this price I'm definitely not expecting Steiner or Canon Image Stabilization quality, light gathering capability, sharpness, etc. I'm just wondering if they are good enough to throw into the bailout bag in the car, check targets at the 25 yard handgun range, bring to football games, or to the beach for girlwatching.:p

So, should I save my money for a Swarovski, or are these usable enough for casual use?

Oh, I also see a 8x21 monocular on sale for $8.

I have a pair that I use at races, ball games etc. They work OK. If I broke or lost them at the ballpark I wouldn't be heartbroken. Cheap optics have there place.

They're fine but if you ever do look through a pair of Steiners, you'll never look through anything else the same way again. A classic example of "you get what you pay for." For a BOB or something, perfect.

You're comparing a $500.00 binocular to a $15.00 pair. :what: I've owned Simmons, Bushnell, Nikon and Leupold. Then I looked through a pair of Swarovski. That look-see cost me $500.00. And yes, you can use them for ballgames, concerts, the beach or watching airplanes. Crystal clear and your eyes never get tired.

I just got a Leupold VX-I 2-7x33 shotgun scope for Christmas. They make great products. I could tell just upon opening up the highly protective box and seeing the beautiful optic and the thick instructional manual. If their binocs are as great as their scopes, save your money and get a Leupold scope.

I purchased a Simmons 3-10 x 50 scope at a charity silent auction several years ago for $45 without knowing anything about Simmons quality or prices. I found out later it was a $95 scope. I should have saved my money, but at least it went to a charitable organization.

The elevation and windage adjustments are erratic at best, and the brightness is not good.

Simmons binoculars might be a different story, but at the low prices I doubt it. It's hard for me to believe they can put together an optic with any quality or long term value at those prices, even in Thomasville, Georgia.
