I've got a screw loose..and by loose I mean "on the loose". I was changing the hand grips on my Beretta Tomcat and one of the screws for the grips made a run for it. I cannot find it anywhere. My supspicions are that the same gnomes that steal my pocket change and underwear took it. Does anyone know if I can contact beretta and get another one??? If not is there a way to get another one? :(

I'll go ahead and throw these two out there without confirming that they have it first. :)

Numrich at http://www.e-gunparts.com
Brownell's at http://www.brownells.com

They've had all the grip screws I've ever needed.

I'm almost certain it isn't in my house. So you can scratch here off the list. :D

I wouldn't put it past you. Everyone knows you cannot trust a carebear.

Got any high-powered magnets and/or flashlights? :)

My experience with grip screws is that they show up as soon as you order new ones. :banghead:

I once managed to launch a spring from of a mint condition 1942 byf P38 well out into the front yard. Had to sweep the yard with a BIG magnet to find it.

Freely admit, that frickin' slayed me!

On a serious note, whenever disassembling small, tricky things, try doing it on a big blank surface, preferably on floor-level. A room covered in pale linoleum would be ideal, yet tacky. If there are any nasty little springs involved in the takedown process, wear safety goggles and disassemble inside a clear plastic bag. Keep a bowl or tray next to you, into which you can drop every small part.

How did I learn these things? The hard way...

Small screws and springs are sneaky little things. They can darn near hide in plain sight but carpets eat the little suckers. Sometimes if your lucky like unspellable a BIG magnet might work. Worth a try anyway. I agree with asknight to check with Gun parts and /or Brownells.

Another trick is to spread out a large terry cloth bath towel, long nap side up and work on that surface. Small parts tend to stop before they travel very far on such a surface.

Warning: If married, don't use a good bath towel or you will have more to worry about than small parts.

Speaking of grip screws, being a "cheapskate" I thought I'd avoid the high price of Hex SS screws from Brownell's, et al..by going to my neighborhood Bolt & Screw outlet...He has everything, I thought...After spending minutes trying to match my sample, he asked, "Are these grip screws"? :uhoh: After confessing they were, he mentioned that they had a special thread pattern that he doesn't stock and the local LEO's are always coming around changing grips and he couldn't help them...:banghead: Can you believe this? Just cannot get around paying top-dollar for grip screws.:fire:

If it happened to fall on a rug or carpet, and a magnet doesn't do the trick, try the vacuum...put a cloth over the suction end of the hose and carefully go over the area. I found a contact lens using that method...should work for a lost screw.
