Help. Can anyone ID this sight?

Many times at gun shows, where used rifles/shotty's are laid out on tables, I've seen pump shotguns that had a glass ring as the rear sight. This ring is huge, about 1 1/2" diameter and looks like a small magnifying glass without the magnification. It doesn't appear to be a red dot and I didn't see any electronics. I also never picked one up and looked thru it. I kick myself for not asking what they were at the time. It is not a tube-type. Just a flat piece of glass like a heads-up display.
Can anyone ID this thing or shed any light on it?

Old?
Might be a Nydar sight...were pretty popular in the 1950.s and work kind of like a heads-up display. No batteris, works on ambinat light...but it's the gand-father of red dot and Holo sights.
