Curious as to if there really is anything like the sling that jayne uses for his submachine gun (mp5 PDW?) in the bank robbing scene.

yeah that was neat, wasn't it? Both the show and the movie were filled wth guns that didn't make sense and gun props that were laughable, but I thought that was pretty neat.

I assume you're talking about this rig

Looks like a typical 3 point "tactical" sling to me with maybe an additional steel buckle for looks.

Am I the only one who's favorite character on Firefly was Jane?

He was certainly one of the most interesting. He had the redeeming qualities of being able to shoot straight and a nice selection to choose from. "Let's be bad guys...." :D
Who else will admit to ROTFLYAO during Jaynestown the first, second, and third time you saw it? (I've only watched the series 3 times, it'll probably also be funny during future viewings) My guess is he is pro-gun, but I don't know that for a fact. I do know he is NOT related to the hollywood baldwin brothers.

Being a bad guy is always more fun in the movies. Who doesn't love Magneto more than professor X? I thought Janestown was very funny. I hated to see that series cancelled.

It's half a parachute rig. Other than it looks military, I'm not sure which model.

edit -- here's a fellow who was selling half of one. He apparently sold it, but it at least has pictures:

Did you and I watch the same show?
With the exception of the "New Tech" weapons which were delibratly more 'sci fi' than the rest (laser pistols and air-blast stun rifles) the vast majority of the guns are real models... often with a few extra plates, grips, and other things bolted on to obscure the actual make and model.
The Heckler and Koch VP70Z is the most common of the autoloaders shown, although the Desert Eagle makes a memorable apperance in Objects in Space.
Inara's pistol, shown in Trash was a humble Ruger Mk. II .22 auto pistol. With what what looked to me to be a Cutts compensator on the barrel and an item attached to look like a laser sight and/or scope.
Zoe's carbine, a "hog leg" in all the offical literature, is a Winchester 1892; Cut short in a tribute to Steve McQueen's Josh Randall... a unique and memorable weapon, but not an impossible one.
Malcolm Reynolds, our captain tightpants, used a very fancy looking pistol. I forget the make it's based on, but it is an autoloader not a revolver as many have speculated.

LOVED the show and subsequent movie. Jayne is my favorite male character while it's a toss up between recurring character 'Saffron' and Kaylee.
Jaynestown ep is hilarious.

FYI: There is an easter egg in the Firefly DVD set where he puts on his cunning hat and sings 'The Ballad of Jayne'. :D

I cracked up laughing when he ended the song with ".. a man they call ME!"
I might have to watch that again tonight.

Much as I like this shiny thread, we're gonna have to stick to the guns of Serenity/Firefly to stay on topic (and open).

I've seen the movie numerous times, but never noticed the M1A1 Carbines on the Mule until someone pointed them out to me.
