Shot my 1911 (Colt Govt. Model) for the first time tonight. Pleasantly surprised. Much less bark than the g22 and g27.
Others experience the same?

Up until two years ago my collection was without a 1911 and to be honest I really had no desire to have one. Then on a whim I bought a new S&W 1911. I've been hooked ever since. I shoot USPSA weekly and no matter what handgun I use, it never beats the accuracy I get from that 1911. Hell, I don't even know why I keep trying others. I just wish that most 1911s were not illegal in Massachusetts as I'd love buy more. Right now you can only buy the S&W and SIG models.

I remember watching a History Channel show a couple of years ago where a WW I veteran was saying how difficult it was to shoot a 1911. He concluded with "try it, you'll see". This goes along with the myths of about the gun will slam your hand and any hit on the enemy will knock him flat.
I don't like heavy recoil and have found a 1911 is more pleasant to shoot than many pistols I've tried (like try a .380 for hand stinging!). My wife, 5'4", 118#, tried a 1911 and liked it better than a .38 revolver or even a .22 Ruger.
So, yeah, it sounds like your experience is typical. Get people away from the myths and they will quite often be very surprised at the comfort of a big ol' ".45 automatic".

I bought a G21 and most of the guys down at the range said after I had it for a while I would be selling my SW1911. That didn't happen, I have some other GLOCKs but as far as a 45 I'll stick with my 1911.

The S&Ws are the best 1911s being made right now anyway.
