Choose a handgun for static competition

Today's match opened the summer season. Our club has two five-man teams that take part in monthly matches in a discipline that could be described as "utility pistol". Allowed are pistols in 9mm Para and .45ACP and revolvers in .357 and .44 Magnum. Barrel length is limited to 6" (6.5" for .44Mag), iron sights only.
The target is at 25m and the course of fire is:
5 shots for zeroing + 4 * (5 shots in 150sec) + 4 * (5 shots in 20sec)
Mimiking Lendringser's and Tamara's CCW posts, which handgun would you choose? :)

Well, mag capacity isn't an issue, really, and you don't need to "make major" or knock steel plates over at 100 yards...
An ergonomic, accurate, light-recoiling 9mm with a good single-action trigger seems to be all you really need.

I concur. All those pistols would be suitable, but I'd choose the SIG P210. It has a better SA trigger and ergonomics than anything other than the 1911, and its lower magazine capacity is not a drawback in that discipline.

Are you shooting at the 25m UIT Standard Pistol Targets?
The rest of the event sounds like standard pistol without the rapid string. The revolver is no handicap, because you have plenty of time to thumbcock the hammer.
I voted for the SIG 210 tho...

I'd use the SIG P210-6.

I'm not sure why anyone would vote for anything but the 210, unless the .44 has a longer sight radius. Sounds like you just need accuracy, which is what a 210 or a revolver will give you above all else.

Considering that the SIG P210 has rifle like accuracy right out of the box, and it's in your price range - there is no question.
If the option was between the 210 and something else - and you don't take the 210 - You would be most foolish.

I voted for the .44Mag, but I think your best bet for this kind of competition would be one of the S&W PC 8-shot revolvers in .357Mag or .38Super. Both would give more than enough cartridge capacity, reliability, & reloading speed (w/ full-moon clips). And both cartridges would be more than enough to knock down steel (esp. in the 158gr. weight class moving about 900-1000 fps.) w/o too much recoil.
If you decide to go w/ the .44Mag, I'd use Specials for most of my shooting. A good 200gr. SWC loaded to 800-900 fps would knock them down w/ authority w/o too much recoil.
Whatever you decide, hope you enjoy it...:D

I also picked the P210, it's the best choice of those listed, IMHO.

Owen, I read "approved by UIT/ISSF" on some of the 150sec targets. The ring diameters for the 150sec target are roughly 10-2", 9-4", 8-6", 7-8",... and 10-4", 9-7", 8-10.2", 7-13.35",... for the 20sec target.
My fault to include the dominant Sig 210 in poll. You might be interested in the scores that were shot using those guns:
Sig 226 SL - 329 (haven't seen Peter shoot that gun before)
Target Champion - 341 (Mike had a bad day)
Sig 210-6 - 352 (Reiner is still adapting to his new acquisition)
G17L - 357 (I need more training for the 20sec part)
USP Elite - 373 (Uh, in a world of compromise, Uwe doesn't)
Thanks to all for taking part in my first poll. :)
