Yet another gun show tale...

Went to a gun show this weekend, and it's always a good story, so I thought I would share/vent...

I went looking for a few things...
1. Good deal on an O/U or 1100 12 ga.
2. 21" ASP telescoping baton
3. Ammo

Of course, I found overpriced or beat up guns, and 16" and 26" ASPs. Imagine that. We got there fairly early and it was packed. I mean pushing fire code packed. I walked around to the various tables and saw a lot of ammo, none of it what I was looking for. Walked ********* to elbow with every Bubba and a conglomeration of the world's finest "tactical" marksmen (just ask them how good they are, they'll tell you).

I got to attempt to buy a few things, but didn't want to interrupt the vendor's conversation with Bubba II about how his Mosin will hit steel plates at 600 off hand if he has a good spotter.

As I continued down the line, someone either stepped in something, or they needed to go down to Aisle 4 and get them a clean pair of BDU trousers from Zed, who was busy talking about a Romanian AK he did a trigger job on and it was right at 1 oz. with a nice two stage feel.

It was also about 200 degrees in there, and as I was beginning to say "I gotta get out of here!", I saw it. The AR table. I walked over and the well-dressed vendors said "Pick up anything you might be interested in!", so I did and about 20 mins later he was still dedicated to answering any questions I had. He basically went through and picked all the accessories I said I would want on my future AR, shot me a price, gave me his card, etc. Not once did he turn around and talk to someone else about Ronny's 11.5" upper, he was polite, paid attention to what I wanted, and made suggestions as to what he liked for my application.

Just overall a good guy, and he gave me the AR bug. So now, I do fear I will be looking in to an AR. I wouldn't feel right buying it from anyone but these guys. Good people to deal with and a great example of what a gun show vendor should be!

How is it I went in looking for a shotgun and come out with ARs dancing in my head like sugar plums?

Sounds great. Would you have been offended if this businessman had spoken with other customers during the 20 minutes you handled his wares? I hope you realize it's rare for a vendor to be able to devote complete attention to you, especially at a busy gunshow.

Unless I miss my guess you could have been at the Midway show and were speaking to Lawrence form C.M.M.G..

Those guys are great to deal with. Maybe not the cheapest around...
But, they know their stuff. And..they beleive highly in customer service!

I feel like they have done me right on a few occasions.

When you get ready to buy you'd do well to give em a shot at your business.

If you aren't already familiar with them...

Check em out at www.cmmginc.com

you might also want to nose around over at www.AR15.com as well and see what those guys have to say about em.

It may take me awhile but I have plans to buy one of their complete rifles. :)

I would have to agree with you there. I see them at most every show in the KC area, and each time I stop by their booth, someone is always willing to answer questions. I had been looking at their AR's for some time, and at the last KC show picked up my first. I have to admit, after shooting it, I sold my DPMS Mforgery within a week.

I think the guy I bought it from was Jason? from CMMG...either way, great customer service and I LOVE the rifle! Already dura-coated, and came with 4 mags!

Haha, you're exactly right, it was the Midway show and CMMG. I didn't have my tin foil hat on so I didn't want to give away my location. :D I will definitely be doing business with them when I get my AR.

No I wouldn't have been offended if he helped someone else while I was shopping around, but my point was that he didn't. He wasn't the only one at the table working, so that helped him out some. All I meant was there are a lot of vendors who are sitting there with their chin on their fist and when someone asks them a question, they don't even raise their head, they just mumble through closed teeth.

As for why I didn't buy the AR is because I never, at least very rarely, buy on a whim. I like to go home, roll it around and pick EXACTLY what I want before I spend my hard-earned money. I don't buy something close to save a few bucks because I will always say "Man I wish I would have _______."

CMMG's excellent customer relations skills and good attitude is why I will be buying from them in the future. They are the only company I have ever left the gun show and intended on doing business with at a later date. I couldn't tell you more than one other vendor from any show I have been to, but I will never forget their service.

I like to feel like an appreciated customer, and CMMG definitely does that.

I am also considering buying a complete rifle. One of the big kickers with me is their no BS lifetime warranty. They are close enough to me, I could drive to them, have them fix my problem, drive home and be shooting the same day. Do that with other companies.

Great story! One ounce AK trigger :D :p :scrutiny:

I enjoy shooting my AR's. Probably shoot them more than any other rifle I own.

What state do you live in? Up here in NE OH, it's been incredibly packed also. More so than I can remember winter shows ever being. Wonder what the big deal is.

And while you were talking to him, someone else who just wanted to buy something was thinking that he couldn't manage to interrupt the dealer's conversation with Bubba III who didn't even buy anything. :D
