NEF Protector 12ga Pump

A friend of mine bought one for $160 otd on my recommendation after examining it and determinig that it was functionally the same as a remington 870. I've owned a couple NEF single shot shotguns and they've been nothing but reliable. We put about 100 rounds through it so far, not a single hiccup or anything bad to say about it. I actually feel that it is more manuverable and a better shotgun for cqb than my 870 express with an 18.5" bbl.
The really cool part about the protector (18.5" bbl, 5+1, bead sight) is that the reciever is drilled and tapped for a scope mount. Everything appears to be steel with more attention being given to the receiver than on an 870 express.
The only trouble we had with it all day is when I stripped it down to receiver+magtube and other parts, trying to get it back together was a pain. It is the exact same reassembley as an 870 that i've done a hundred times but for some reason the action bars just did not want to go back into the receiver with the bolt sitting on them. I finally got it after about 20 mintues of cussing and playing with it.
All in all, if you were looking for a good cheap blaster, I'd say buy it.

what's the finish? Gander montain has them for $149.99 brand new. I'm looking for a matte or parkerized finish, so I would like to know, if you could tell me.

it looks like a park job, if not its very close. grayish-matte finish. definetly not high-gloss blueing.
$160 was including mississippi's 7%

My last 870, in near new condition was $178 out the door. A couple posters since then have gotten better bargains.
The ethics of supporting the military arm of the largest dictatorship left on earth aside, nobody does pumps better than US makers though some make cheaper pumps.
I'd quote Ruskin again but I'm tired....

I could swear that NEF (New England Firearms) is a branch of H&R Firearms. Thats not a chinese company, I don't believe.

The only NEF shotguns made in the USA are the single shots. All of their pumps are made in CHINA. Says right there in the side of the receiver.

He's right, the pumps are made in China, says so right on them.
I almost bought one a few months ago because it really is a great gun for the money, but that big "Made in China" really bothered me...
I know, I already have plenty of Chinese manufactured goods in my home, but I have a hard time adding more when there are other options...
I do have an NEF single shot and plan on more, love those Pardners and Handis...

I see nothing wrong with buying something I like reguardless of where it is made.
In my area is is hard to find used 870s for sale, everyone around here keeps em.

Will stocks made for the 870 fit this shotgun? Like the specops or a speedfeed IV stock?

I doubt it, the receivers have a different contour and it does not look to me like the same stocks would fit.

Gander Mnt. has a rack of these made in China 870 knock-offs.
It's the same rack that was there last year, not selling. Perhaps if they took their rightfull place in the dollars stores this might be one chineese item that wouldn't wind up in our landfills.
