Gun Ammo (Reason stopped shooting)

Worst on top

Pump Shotgun shooting birdshot (60 shots before starting to flinch)
Semi Shotgun shooting birdshot (arms got tired before flinching started)
Turkish Mauser shooting turkish ammo (arms got tired before flinching started)
22 caliber bolt (ran out of ammo)

I actually find shooting some of that stout turk 8mm rivals 12 guage.

None of that stuff kicks enough to bother me unless I'm shooting a lot of it. My only kickers that I pay any attention to are a 7.5 lb. 3.5" 12 ga with 2.25 oz of shot, and a .416 Rem Mag.

I've shot four rounds of trap in a day, shooting the 1 1/8 oz. birdshot valuepack loads by Winchester, and I don't feel sore until the next day. The most I've put through my M48 in a day is about 75 rounds of Romanian (IIRC, might be Czech) surplus, but I stopped because my friend was bored, not 'cause I was hurtin'. Done more than 100 .223 in a day yet through my (grumble) Mini without troubles.

Shotguns, ah shotguns.

A decent recoil pad held against your body, not your arm, and a gun that fits at least somewhat will be no problem. Shoot at a moving target and use your whole body.

Don't shoot at a stationary target like a rifle for too many rounds. You will probably learn to flinch. And it's boring.

12ga slugs are what always bother me. I tend to just shoot light recoil firearms, but when I do shoot some 12 ga slugs I make sure I have a good recoil pad.

The worst recoil I've ever felt:

3" magnum slug out of a Benelli Nova SP (no mercury reducer), rollover prone, right side, right handed. There is literally no where for the recoil to go except into you.

Can't say I enjoyed 3" magnum slugs through my Mossberg 500 during the very short period of time it had a top folding stock on it

So far nothing I've shot compairs to 3 1/2" slugs from a 18.5" bbl benelli Nova tactical. That is the worst pounding i've ever recieved. I definetly would not like to shoot that without a heavy jacket or a shooting jacket unless I have to.

I shot about 20 rounds of that stuff through the nova, a mossberg bolt action with a 20" bbl and a browning B80 with a 20" slug bbl. I was hurtin at the end of the day and i'm not ashamed to admit it.

I can shoot 00 buck and .338 all day long and they don't even touch 3.5" slugs from a short barrel
