The Weaver rail notches are spaced 3.8mm apart. The Picatinny rail notches are spaced 5mm apart. Sometimes they're interchangable. Which do you prefer?

there is no neither.. I rarely use the rail on my p22 for the laser. I cant tell you what rail that is.. I choose neither. Makes the pistol look kind of funky imo.

I don't like rails. Should be a special order request of the owner. I'll bet 95% never use them.

For what it's worth - Picatinny rails not only have a different rail spacing (as noted) but the Weaver cross slots are significantly narrower than the Picatinny cross slots. This means that you can often use Weaver rings on a Picatinny rail (with a lot of slop in the slot), but the converse is not true.
Oh, and none of my pistols have rails. In my life, pistols are used for close-in defensive work, and as such really don't seem to need rails. If I want an offensive weapon or a weapon for something other than contact distances, I'll pick up a carbine (and hopefully have a light on it).

Another vote for no rail here. May be of some use for military or LEOs but there is no situation where I think I would need one plus they're UGLY!

I should have specified that the purpose of this poll was to determine what rail is used by those who use them... a popularity contest of rail types. Not an indication of how many people use rails, thus the nonexistence of a "None" option.

Rails are for lights which are necessity on a duty weapon or on a civilian home defense pistol. Weapon mounted lights are superior to standard flashlight techniques. I will not have a full size or mid size carry gun without a rail.

My personal experience with the Weaver bases was that they were not uniform. I purchased several Weaver bases for an assortment of Encore and Contender barrels. Only 2 of the bases were uniform. Others were so far off that I had to machine them to be able to interchange the scope. I have not yet experienced that pheomenon with Picatinny. It does not mean that I never will, simply that to date, I have not.
Good post thanks,
