This pistol appears to be in about 70%-75% condition. We have looked everywhere and only getting ballpark "asking" prices. What is it worth realistically? We also have a Colt .25 automatic (model 1908?) if you have any info on that it would be helpful as well.

Again we have a 'what's it worth' question without enough information to warrant an educated guess.

Is the gun Blued or nickle or mostly brown?
Are the grips hard rubber, wood, ivory, or pearl?
Is the barrel hinge broken, cracked, or intact?
Is the gun mechanically functional?
Did somebody, at some point in time, put a set of micrometer target sights on the gun, or does it appear to be visually as from the factory with no alterations other than the wear of time and/or neglect?

As for the .25 acp colt they run anywhere from $100.00 to $2000.00 and the same questions need be answered before an answer can be provided.

Again, we have a reply to a post by somebody being a know it all! 70-75% condition meaning it is fully functional so there is no need to answer 2 of your questions, micrometer target sights? Hmmmm NO, do you know what type of Derringer I'm talking about? So that leaves 2 questions.........wood grips and nickel finish. If I knew as much as you I would have looked at this post and said "assuming the gun is fully functional, without knowing the finish or types of grips I would say in the ballpark of $$$-$$$"
You may have been more helpful with that reply.

During the period that this little gun was manufactured (1866 to 1935) black, hard-rubber grips were standard, with pearl and ivory (but not wood) being optional. If it could be proven that the wood grips were on the gun when it was made it would add considerably to its value, but I don't believe any factory records are still available. Otherwise the wood grips would slightly detract from its value.

Over the years collectors have classified them into three types, with sub-categories within some of the types. The values are determined depending on which type or sub-category the particular pistol belongs too. This must be determined by certain features and markings because serial numbers are worthless (the same numbers were used over and over).

The hinge on the frame tends to crack, and a piece with a sound hinge is worth more then one that is cracked or repaired.

As you can see, determining the exact value of a Remington O/U derringer can be difficult unless one can examine the particular gun, or at least have a very detailed description. A photograph can help, especially if it shows the extractor.

Given the circumstances I can give you an off-hand average value, but I don’t think that’s what you are looking for. Anyway, I’d say between $350 to $400.

No, no. That is exactly the info I was looking for. I booked the gun at $500-$1000 (10%-60%). It is a type 3 over and under. The walnut grips were available. Thank you for the information.

And Mister I don't claim to be an expert on anything but I can back up any information I give with a 1400+ volume reference library and 30 years of working on and around the firearms industry, including dealing in high end collectables.

I'd say about $600 is the current realistic price, at least here in Ca. A 90% or better is worth close to a grand. The 1908 is worth around $300 in 75% although I bout a 95% in the box not too long ago for $350.I could resell it tommorrow for $500:)

BTW on items like this I guess I AM an expert (as is ONMILLO for sure!!)
