Ammunition Storage

Bear with me please I'm the FNG so I am still finding my way around, sorry if this post is in the wrong place. I would like to know how long the safe shelf life is for ammo, and does it have any condition preferences. Also how the heck do they make that 9mm ammo so much cheaper than everything else.

Welcome to THR!
I have fired ammo that was over 100 years old, and it functioned fine.
Keep in a dry place with minimal temperature extremes and it will last a very very long time.
.22 is cheaper than 9mm, but 9mm is usually the cheapest center fire caliber available. Supply and demand.

Ammo will last a very long time such as several decades if they are stored in a dry environment. 9mm is used by most militaries, police and civilians worldwide. Therefore more governments and companies load it compared to other calibers which makes it cheaper.

Use military 50 cal metal ammo boxes to store your spare ammunition.
They are cheap, about $5, air tight and reasonably safe in a fire.
Stored right ammunition will usually outlast the owner.
I have some 1942 military 45ACP ammo that was stored in sealed "spam cans". In 64 years the ammo has lost only 25fps and is some of the most accurate 45ACP I've ever shot.

I am presently shooting bricks of .22lr ammo that was purchased in the mid 70s. It was stored in a dry basement that has a dehumidifierl No problems at all so far.:)

+1 to M2 Carbine's suggestion. GI ammo cans work GREAT for ammo storage. Throw in a small dessicant pack and you're good to go. Maybe a dab of silicon on the rubber gasket every couple of years is all you might need.

There is a TON of WW2 ammo still for sale that shoots fine.
