I bought this mag release head for one of my XDs, but the head is going to hit against the frame. My solution is to put a few washers underneath the head and bring it up a little bit. The problem I am having is I am going to need a longer screw if I use the washers. I can't for the life of me find a screw that small. Does anyone know where I could find one??

All I know about the screw is that is is very small and it is a 4-40 thread.

Your small local Ace or True Value hardware stores often have such scews, you might have to ask as they aren't always in an aisle out in the store.

Mom and Pop type hardware stores are SOOO much nicer to use than the big chains.

Another possibility is Radio Shack. They have packages of small screws used in electronics.

Thanks guys this is all good advice. I will check the hardware store, and then radio shack, and then some of the oline places.

I sure would like to hear from a gunsmith, on this one.

I was always taught that gun screws had a different pitch than SAE or metric screws.

Most of the gun screws do have a finer thread than SAE or Metric.

Ex.: Electrical outlet screws are usually 6-32. Gun scope mounting screws (older ones usually - some new) are usually 6-48.

Lowes has 8-32 machine screws, but gun screws are 8-40.

1/4-20 bolts are widely used. HiPoint uses some... A remington 870 stock bolt should be 1/4-28. The Ace here happens to sell long 1/4-20 bolts and also 1/4-28 dies.

However, the Ace here stocks a wide variety of odd sizes; 0-80 and up... They even sell high priced ammunition - one Ace hardware is about the best gun store around here...
