I heard somewhere that Wolfe ammo will ruin my extractor! Is that true? Or am I being silly.

The topic of Wolf ammo is brought up frequently. Try a search here & over on TFL an decide for yourself. Personally, I stay away from the self.

I REALLY like the Wolf .22, which is made in Germany. For the centerfire stuff I only use it in Russian type guns.

Depends on the weapon. For plinking or fun shooting in non-serious firearms. Volk ammo is just fine.

Never ever in a carry gun or serious firearm.

Wolf .22 is actually SK Jagd .22 from Germany, a brand well known for accuracy and dependability. I love it, and my Ruger loves it--but it's kinda hard to find up here.

The other calibers? Not too sure anymore.

I don't use it. Heard too many stories about it gumming up chambers, causing stoppages, etc.

Yet, one of my friends fires almost nothing but Wolf in his AR. Loves the stuff.

Steel case ammo? Perish the thought.

But I know of guys that use Wolf .45 exclusively in their pistols.

Jury's still out. You try and decide.

Yes. TRY IT. It's so cheap that you can probably afford a box for whatever gun you want.

IT works flawlessly in AKs. Hell, it's the reason AK ammo is so cheap. You don't see NEARLY so much surplus 7.62x39 as you do Wolf.

Myth #1 - Wolf ammo will wear out your extractor because of the steel case.

Answer - No. It won't. The cases are coated with laquer and it's this laquer, not the case itself, that comes into contact with your gun's innards. The laquer is nice and soft so there is little chance of the steel "wearing out" anything.

Myth #2 - Wolf ammo is dirty.

Answer - All ammo is dirty. Wolf does leave a lot of residue, but no more so than W231, Bulls Eye, or Unique. If you clean your guns regularly (and you do, right?) it is no worse than some other commercial ammunition.

Myth #3 - Wolf ammo will gum up your gun because the laquer will come off in the chamber.

Answer - Possible, but not likely. Unless you are one of those gun owners who subscribes to the "I don't clean it till it jams" theory of gun care it's unlikely that you will ever have a problem. On several occasions I've fired 500+ rounds of Wolf 9mm through my XD with no functional problems. You could see some laquer residue starting to build up, but a quick swipe with a patch soaked in Hoppes #9 wiped it right off.

Some guns are ammo-sensitive, regardless of brand. Try a couple of boxes in your gun. If you don't have any problems, buy a boatload of it and blast away!

I have pistols that leave extremely serious marks in the rim from the extractor/ejector on BRASS CASES.
My guess is these weapons would find steel cases difficult and it wouldn't surprise me to see Wolf cause problems in the long run if I used it all the time.

I have a few others that leave virtually no mark on a BRASS CASE. I figure these "manage" the case better and or the extractor/ejector is better tuned. I figure an occassional box or two of steel cased ammo will cause no problem.

I have only shot steel in one of the guns that does not mark either type of case. On close examination they seem to be unblemished. I keep a closen eye on the brass ejected from these guns too.

IIRC Steel cases were used by both sides duing WW2 without much trouble. There are all kinds of steel and the steel for ammo cases is a very soft steel, I wonder what the Rockwell hardness is for Wolf ammo is compared to the hardness of alloyed brass cases?

Ok. Brad convinced me to give it a try. I'll just have to learn for myself on this issue. Thanks Guys.
