Ballistic gelatin test results - .45ACP Ranger 'T'

.45ACP 230 grain +P Winchester Ranger ‘T’ JHP

Calibration = 9.0 ± 0.05cm BB penetration at 545 ± 0.500 ft/sec.

Recoil operated semi-auto pistol with 5.0” long barrel

Shot 1 penetrated 13.3 ± 0.031” and expanded to 0.774 ± 0.0005”. Impact velocity was 891 ± 0.500 ft/sec.

Test sequence was conducted as part of a test of other calibers. Further testing was halted at round 1 due to the inavailability of an undamaged portion of gelatin block.

Thanks for the info, but a better test is firing the round through cloth before the gelatin. Many HP rounds will expand just great in bare gelatin yet fail to expand when cloth is placed in front of the block.
