I'm going to buy a new .223 for coyotes and fox soon and was wondering if you guys know of a good scope for it.

Thanks

Leupold VX-III 6.5 x 20 with the Varmint Hunters Reticle. Greatly simplifies things out to 500 yards.

BTW, Welcome. :)

Depending on the ranges and lighting conditions, you might prefer a Leupold 4.5-14. In low light, the magnifications above 14x aren't very useful, and I prefer to have the 4.5x at the low end for varmints that pop up at closer ranges. But then, I do very little varmint shooting past 350 yards.

If you're calling coyotes and foxes, odds are you'll be shooting inside of 100 yards. Night time, most of my shots have been inside 50.

Looking back at incidental coyotes killed while deer hunting, where the shots were the longest, I've had my scopes at 3X or 4X more than any other magnification...Heck, 2X with the Leupold 2x7 on my .243.

Spend the money on binoculars. Scope magnification beyond 4X on something as big as a coyote is almost unimportant...

But I just happened to have an extra Vari-X 2 3x9x40 that I stuck on my 77 Mk II .223.

Any high power Leupold, Swavrowski, or Zeiss Scope will do well.

ther is only two scopes you need to look at. Tasco varmint 6.24.42 and its Barska clone. they are both tough, and they are both under 100 bucks.

On my latest rifle, purchased specifically for 'Ol Wiley, I installed a Bushnell Elite 4-16X40. <$350, and I prefer it to Leupolds. The rifle is a CZ 527 in .17 Remington. I have 4-16s on a lot of my varmint guns, guess I like that range.
Clean kills or clean misses!

Good advice so far. I'm not much of a coyote killer (yet), but use my .223 for all sorts of miscellaneous varmints of opportunity. I have a Bushnell Elite 4200 4-16x40 AO, and I love it. It does get 16x use from time to time.
