What is your opinion of these revolvers? Don't take price in account. Which is the better gun. Thanks for your help.

I loved the 8 inch Anaconda I had but then again the 629 I owned with a 4 inch tube was great. The Smith would be my choice due to the fact they are easier to get good DA triggers out of.

The Anaconda isn't a Python on steroids. Both Anacondas I've looked at and considered buying and the one I shot were reasonably well made, but weren't better than Rugers or Smith & Wessons.
If you want fancy or custom stocks or need replacement parts, the Smith & Wesson has the advantage.

I have both. I recommend both. I do use my Anaconda more when deer hunting, though.

Years ago I had an Anaconda in .45 Colt caliber. NIB it had a few issues:
1) Barrel-cylinder gap was .001-002 which meant it would bind fairly fast. Atleast this is understandable and both good and bad.
2) The charge holes were WAAAY over-sized. Should have been .452 and they ranged from .454-459.
I sent it back to Colt and they replaced the cylinder.
The over-sized chambers really shouldn't have happened on a gun THAT expensive!

I have an 8" Colt and a 6" 629. . .I much prefer the Anaconda. I haven't had my Colt long enough to do any serious hunting with it, but I like the way it shoots. . .

Correct, it's a King Cobra on steroids. The Anaconda is bigger than a 629, maybe more durable, the 629 is more likely to have a better trigger pull, although the Anaconda I shot had a decent pull.
With price taken out of the equation I'd go with the Anaconda, but that's just because I like it better than a 629 - especially a 629 "Classic".

Well, I MAY BE a "Smith & Wesson Elitist"...there are only a HANDFUL of COLT revolvers that I'd consider owning, and the "Anaconda" is NOT one of 'em...FWIW, I've had a coupla' "Pythons"...still have a CHERRY mid-60's production six-inch that I'd hold onto after SEVERAL of the Smiths would be gone, should I EVER have to make such distasteful choices...Python, YES, Anaconda, NO...my two cents' worth, anyway....mikey357
