I have a .177 caliber Air rifle I want to know if I should clean it at all, and if I should, how should I?

Why would you clean it? It's an AIR gun, there won't be any residue or anything. If it has dirt on it, use soap and water.

WARNING! BEFORE reading farther, please read the disclaimer at the end of the post.

It may need cleaing once in a great while, but you should do it VERY carefully. The bore and therefore the rifling is TINY. It doesn't take much to damage the rifling.

Most experts recommend using a nylon pull-thru type cleaner and a patch soaked in a solvent such as Goo-Gone or Simple Green.

Do not use firearm solvents as they can damage the seals in airguns.

NEVER use a bore brush.

Just use a little oil. The bore will barely be dirty because there is no gunpowder. The main thing is to oil metal on the outside to prevent rusting. Usually this only needs done if the gun was exposed to water or humidity. Occassionally oil any working parts, but very, very lightly. Too much oil will make a mess and can ruin an airgun.

I ain't never had no cause to clean a gun that don't use gunpowder. (I have been on this "no cause" kick so that why I used triple negatives)

If you don`t have a pullthrough cleaner use fishing line.
Pull a dry patch through.
Wet a patch with oil, pullthrough.
Pull a dry patch through.

That should be fine, don`t over do it.
