Anyone else in here have there gun safe mounted to a concrete floor? I do and I was wondering if anyone else was worried about dropping a weapon on the concrete and damaging it. Alot have probably already done this but just in case I will metion it anyway. I just bought those little rubber interlocking matts they sell a Lowes for kids to play on and they are great for laying in front of the cabinet for extra protection. I dropped my Taurus on it to test (unloaded of course) and not a scratch on the weapon. It landed very softly on the foam rubber.:)

Now you know why so many firearms have a matte finish...

Sam's Club has those for a much better price than any other place I have seen.

I use them in all manner of places. They are especially good for those times you need to work on the car and want a little softness between you and the floor or driveway. I would imagine they would be better than the cheap foam that came with my present gun cabinet.

You could also look into those rubber horse trailer and stall mats. They might be cheaper if you want to cover a large area.

Actually, I'd like to do my whole downstairs in those if they came in something other than black. With all the critters that the wife and kids bring inside, I should have just bought a barn for us to live in in the first place. ;)

you'd be able to get up if you had put one of those mats in place. :neener:

I think TallPine meant if the horse trailer mats came in any color other than black.

WW graingers used to have all sorts of the stuff, I had them in my old shop under and around the bench, saved shapening time when drop a chisel and lets you breath if you knock over a routerwith a $100 bit in it.

i know a family with a child in a motorchair who have redone all but the LR and the MBR in a similar padded material, not for safety but the chair just ate up carpet and vinyl.

these are also good in basements that are too damp for carpet. there are some with drain channels under them that will allow water to run to a floor drain.

I've dropped one, and like an idiot I caught it. In doing so I put a hole in $250 worth of stereo. I havent dropped one since, and if I do, I know to let it fall, and it wouldnt land on a rubber mat. I want the scar on the finish to be a constant reminder of my stupidity so that it doesnt happen again, just like the 12" RF subwoofoer and q logic box that I still have three years after I shot it.
