Ok gents. Its time. Ive been talking about expensive European Autos for some time now. However, I have decided on an old Taurus 98 in .38 special. Its basically a copy of the S&W Model 10 police revolver. Ive checked it out personally. Its only 89 dollars! Now, now, I know what everyone is already thinking, so please, tell me anyway. I need advice. The weapon is not going to be carried so I wont need it for home/personal defense. I just want to spend some cheap dough and shoot it at the range. Any comments?

If you have already done the "Jim March Revolver Checkout" [see handguns: revolvers thread] and you are satisfied that the old Bull is OK, then go ahead and blast away...
But I think I would stay away from the super hot loads in this one. Some just plain old 158-Gr lead semi-wadcutter loads should be good, or if you can find them cheap, the real full-wadcutter target loadswould do well.

As Foghorn1 points out, go with the cheap wad cutters for the range. I would, however, get a box of 125 Gr +P. ,38 Special , FMJ's "just in case."
Enjoy!

Thanks. So, what are some examples of powerful loads to steer away from?
I do plan on stocking some FMJ just incase anyway, although that wont be the prime purpose of this gun.

Maybe an e-mail or phone call to either a local gunsmith you trust, or to Taurus to see if this model is approved for the "+P" hotter loads.
The "+P" loads are loaded to higher pressure levels that standard ammo, and your particular revolver might not be reccommended to use this rounds.
I can't say; I am not all that familiar with the various Taurus models.
A quick visit to the Taurus website www.taurususa.com recommended a 158-Gr bullet @ 755 feet per second muzzle velocity for their .38Spl revolvers. Also recommended against the "+P" ammo.
Go to TaurusUSA website, find saftey page, then the general saftey link under that. Scroll down that page untill you find links to various firearm manuals.
