S&W Model 22TR Disappointment

I've been on the look out for the S&W model 22 Thunder Ranch since they first came out, with no luck. I couldn't find any in my area. I finally found a distributor who had some in stock and ordered one delivered to my local dealer. It came in last Friday.
So I stopped by to pick up my new toy. We took it out of the package, finish looked good and it felt good in the hand. As soon as I started to look it over a little closer I noticed the barrel was canted :cuss: . ***, this was not a subtle defect! The barrel was off by a good 2 or 3 degrees, and should have been noticed by even a casual inspection at the factory. There is absolutely no excuse for this weapon leaving the factory in this condition.
I did not accept this firearm, and the distributor is going to send another one when they get more in stock. We'll see how it goes.

Quality control is too expensive for lots of manufacturers any more.

Yet another reason why I like my ugly old Dan Wessons better than Smith and Wessons!

Wonder, could that be something that could have happened in shipping? Doubt it just by what I read here. Seems like if it'd taken a whack THAT hard, it would have damaged the box.
Ah, I look over EVERYTHING I buy don't care what it is. I've never had an issue with Ruger and think the world of their quality, but I still look them over. Sometimes, though, you might not find out a problem until you take the thing to the range. For that reason, I really like a lifetime warranty and a company like Ruger that backs their stuff and bends over backwards to make the customer happy. I've always heard S&W wa that way, but I've never sent anything to them either.
Just goes to show, though, you can get a turkey from any manufacturer. None of 'em have a lock on that.

No but,Smiths do have a lock on something!:neener: Sorry, that was too easy.
Swordsman, there are others on the Smith forum running into problems with the 22TRs also. One poster has reported an IL lockup. You would think S&W would give a "limited edition" a little extra attention.

I don't see any way this damage could have been done during shipping. The box was not damaged in any way, and the gun is in a well padded case.
Poor quality like this should not occur in any gun, it was just too obvious if anyone had bothered to look. It is even less forgiveable in a limited production run. Maybe they're pushing them out too fast just to meet the demand.

Yikes. I would send it back too. Did the deal mention it when handling the gun? Maybe they dropped it!
