Any experience with Miltech Arms?

They do restorations of WWII rifles. The guns on the website look pretty nice. You can either send in your own, for a restoration, or buy one of their already restored models.

Has anyone ever seen their work personally?

Would it be worthwhile to buy a lower grade CMP Garand and have them restore it?

Their website is http://miltecharms.com/I've seen their work, and it looks good. The gun rags occasionally review their guns, and they have been all good reviews.

I believe they are overpriced for what you get. There are a lot of good smiths out there who can check out a mil-surp and make sure it runs right. There a lot of guys who can repark or refinish wood. You won't get the nifty wooden crate, but the work can be done by any number of people for a better rate. It would require some research on your part to find a smith familiar with your particuluar rifle though.

I bought mine in 1992. Beautiful and it shoots great too. I've enjoyed mine over the years.

About $100 more then a similar Garand from DGR or Fulton Armory.

Most likely, you would come out a head buying a CMP rifle and having it rebuilt, refinished, and restocked.

I own two Miltech rifles -- an Enfield Jungle Carbine and an M1 Carbine -- both bought used but barely fired. They are absolutely beautiful, with perfect wood and parkerizing, and they shoot very well.

I have also seen Fulton Armory's work, most recently last weekend at a gun show in this area. Their rifles look great too.

I think if I were in your position, I would buy the cheapest CMP M1 and send it to Miltech for restoration. They will do a beautiful job, and you won't be sorry.
