She whom I must never question has decided she will allow me my own hobby room to do whatever makes me happy (within reason). So here's the question, if you were given a hobby room what would be your setup?

I have a new Craftsman workbench with lighted medal pegboard I'm going to put in there. Figure it would be nice to have a clean, large workspace for taking things apart in the climate controlled insides of my castle.

So cool to have my own room again! :)

Reloading setup of your choice.

Gunsafe filled with an assortment of things that go "bang!"

Cabinet stocked with ammo.

Nice lighting.

Computer wired into the 'net and the soundcard routed into a good speaker system.

Post-modern art.

I think Justin nailed it on the head, I'd add 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound and perhaps a small mini fridge so you can have a cold one after completing a reloading run or finish cleaning the bangsticks you just got done dirtying:D

Small fridge for your barley pop , or soda .

Assorted artwork on the walls - something to your special tastes - I happen to like art deco type thingy's , as well as 1940's nose art and pin-up girls ,but anything that reflects your unique tastes will do. If you like a coconut monkey - that's the place to put it.

Personal armory of course and hopefully a gun safe to keep your goodies secure and your mind at ease.

Maybe a TV and DVD player to watch those special how to DVD's .

Plenty of open shelving and storage for your toys . That way it is a visual pleasure to scan your treasure trove. AAARRRRGGGG !

Maybe a toilet stool installed in the corner.

And a good lock on the door.

ps: don't forget your little library

Can't believe I forgot about the gunsafe. I've never had a good place to put one that's out of the way or didn't require pulling furniture out to get to it.

+1. Justin has hit everything on the head. Only things I would add are another workbench set up for gunsmithing and wall to wall parts Kits waiting to be assembled.

Don't forget one of Dillon's calendars, or similar on the wall

"My" room has:

40 feet of workbenches along three walls and pegboards above most
electric subpanel with 110 to outlets along benches, and 1 220 outlet
table saw, drill press, bench grinder, other tools
utility tub with hot/cold running water (for cleaning up after shooting black powder)
half bath
refrigerator/freezer
Dillon SL900 shotshell loader
Dillon RL550B pistol/rifle loader
Star Lube-sizer
cleaning station with Tipton gun vise
gun safe
20" TV/DVD combo
2 rarely used exercise machines
several folding camp chairs with drink holders
5' wide double doors to outside with view of lake

Go ahead and be jealous! :neener: It's a 20 by 30 foot room in our walkout basement that the previous owner had outfitted as a wood shop (he installed the benches, lighting and electrical). When I saw it, I told my wife she could buy the house, at any price, as long as the workshop was mine! She agreed and has kept to her word. I can load my ammo, clean my guns, have a beer and take a piss, all without leaving my space. All I need now is a sofa....

When my shooting buddies saw it for the first time, they all had the same reaction: "I'm gonna go pick a fight with my wife so I can get kicked out and move in here!"

A better idea, install a vault door on the room and line the empty walls with gun racks and fill them..........How about a big screen TV? How about one of those beer coolers with the tap? You need a nice recliner to rest up in too.........chris3

Nice idea, but I'm not made of money. My gun collection is pretty pathetic compared to a lot of guys (and some gals!) on this board. I've only got about a half dozen long gun, and the only big screen TV in the house is in the living room. I think the wife would notice if it disappeared.... :uhoh:

The recliner is high on my list, but I have to make do with folding camp chairs for now. At least they have drink holders in the arms! And while I may not have a real beer cooler, I do have a 20 year old fridge that does a fine job of keeping several six packs nicely chilled and close at hand.

I've often thought about a vault door, but what keeps them from going into the neighboring room and just knocking a hole through the wall?

One thing that no one had mentioned that I would think is a necessity, a shop sink. Get one of those big plastic sinks for cleaning yourself and parts. Odds are things are going to get a little messy in your hobby room and your wife will shut it down right quick if you go into her nice clean bathroom to wash off grease or simmilar substances. For plain utillity and adding to your marital harmony, I would think a sink is a must in any hobby room or workshop.

Just my 2 cents.

Actually, I did mention it. It's the 4th item on my list. I agree that it is great to have in a hobby/gun room. It makes cleanup of guns, brass and hands really quick and easy.
