I want to mount one on a PC9. The Ultradot is about $30 more, is it worth it?

Is a 4MOA dot too small for a CQB weapon?

Thanks.

There is a good comparison of those two dot scopes here -

Go down to the "Facts and Figures about Red Dot Scopes" and read it. I think the Ultradot is better than the Propoint, I've got two of them. I also like the Adco dot scopes, the one I have seems to have a better defined dot. You can read up on them here http://www.adcosales.com/dotsights.html. It might be a little lighter too, it's been awhile since I looked at the specs. I've used 4 MOA scope for shooting indoors in competition at just over 16 yards, but to save weight I'm probably going back to iron sights. Dot acquistion isn't that fast, but you can crank them up so they're very bright, which will make finding the dot faster. This might help you with your CQB stuff.
Have you looked at that Holosight? That seems like a good fit for what your application.

I have no experience with the "Ultradot". But I have had a Tasco ProPoint PDP3 for maybe 10 years or so. I've only replaced the batteries twice. If I were choosing, I'd go with the Propoint again because I know it's good stuff.

I believe the PDP6 has multiple reticles.

SIGlaw,

I have no experience with either of the optics mentioned but I have been using a red-dot sight for some time.

In response to your question about a 4 MOA dot's applicability to CQB, my experience has been that it will be adequate. I currently have an Aimpoint with a 3 MOA dot and have never had a complaint about its performance.

Generally, larger dots are easier to acquire but you lose the ability to engage targets at longer distances. I have used an optic identical to mine, with a 7 MOA dot and I was able to engage slightly faster at close-quarters but had more difficulty at range.

The brightness of the dot will also have an effect on your ability to acquire the dot. A dot that is not bright enough will be hard to find and increase your time. Too bright of a dot will be harder to employ at range accurately.

I hope this helps.

Kevin
