I just picked up a Single Shot Muzzleoader a Kahnke, 54 caliber 14 inch barrel, Model-82. I planned on using a .530 R/B with a lubed .020 patch and about 30 grains of 3FFF. Any other idea's, as I have not fired this single shot as of yet....thanks Dan

30grains a good target load, usually, in .50 caliber and larger, consenus has it that 2F is more appropriate.
In the 8.0" Queen Anne .54 Rifled Conversion-Barrel (Matches my .54 Jaeger Flintie) i use 60 grains of 2F and patched ball, or 55 grains of 3F as the serious/hunting load.
I have played with various conicals, Minies, sabots and so forth, out to 50 yards, the patched ball will do everything it should do with a minimum of fuss&bother.
