Why do people like Gunkid do it?

I sent a link to seven people on this site about a new forum I created based on posts in a thread in Strategy and tactics. Apparently Gunkid is one of them using an alias. I have banned him from my forum, but my mind is racing around wondering why people like him do the things they do?
All of their BS opinions and less than stellar attitudes and downright ignorace only make us all look bad when they get on the internet and start spouting off lies and inaccuracies. Gunkid cannot believe he is actually right, he never did any of things he says he has, lies about what he has done and just gives anti-gun folks or those on the fence ammuniton to discount us as a group altogether. Why?
Why can't folks like him shutup and learn something and be nice about their business?
I pretty much know who he is on this site because I am rather sure of six of the seven I sent the PM to (unless one of them gave him the link, which would make me mad), and my forum is in Beta and does not show up in search engines at this time. The funny thing is, his other posts under the other alias aren't much like his. Is he schizo, or does he have ulterior motives? Do they all have ulterior motives? They can't all be crazy. People like him make us look terrible.
Thank you Gunkid, Hardin, Lawrenceof, Okeydoke, Dispatch and the rest of your aliases (the current one here is not included for privacy reasons, this is The High Road after all), your illiteracy, ignorance and BS give you away every single time.

Gunkid is probably some guy from some institution of higher learning, and since we don't do a good enough job at making ourselves look bad, he's determined that we measure up to his preconceived stereotype. Think of it this way:
Everything you post on this forum could end up in some college sophomore's paper about why the world needs more gun control.

From the ones I've met in real life their motives for behavior like that are compensatory. Not having served in the military but wishing they had, lack of attention from mommy and daddy, or spoiled rotten and surprised when they got out of the nest and found out that the rest of the world just doesn't care. There could be something deeper at work too, since none of us obviously knows the hardships that others have been through.
Everyone's got a sob story, damnit anyway, but that alone is no excuse for ig'nance.

Update:
Nothing new on why he does hat he does, though I think the first reply in ths thread had the hammer meeting the nail, apparently Gunkid browses this forum (no surprise) and picked the link up from this thread (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=184903&page=2).
I just wish he'd stop and find a better way to participate in the discussion. I think all of us forum owners should network together to report Gunkid sightings so we can shut him down with lightning-quick speed and accuracy, kinda like Gunkid's "world-class CCW draw". :D
Now that Gunkid has found us, might as well do a little advertising in the sig. Thats gotta be a record, the board was up less than 2 weeks and Gunkid was on there going crazy.

This public forum nevertheless remains a private property. I wonder if people like Gunkid can be charged with trespassing or if restraining order can be requested. It would be interesting to hear from a lawyer on this issue.

You have met people like Gunkid.
They are starving for attention.
They know they haven't got what it takes to really "been there and done that" so they constantly talk BS, trying to impress real men.
They are the kind of guys that talk about their time in Vietnam, when actually they are cowards that never saw a day in the military.
They talk about guns but most of their "knowledge" comes from gun rags and video games.
The Internet is great for them because they don't even have to look a man in the eye when they try to tell their BS.
I really feel sorry for them.
Most men mature past the dork stage in their teenage years but the Gunkids never do.
They are like scared puppies trying to bark like the big dogs.

Nineseven, I know of at least a dozen boards he's been kicked off of more than once. He's unemployed, so basically all he does, all day, every day, is troll the internet.
If he put half as much effort into being a productive citizen as he does trolling gun forums, he'd probably have a six-figure income.

Gunkid now has a weird form of fame.
There's your answer.

I'm sure he is reading this. THR has rules against insulting other members, but since we've banned him from here, oh, fifty times, I'm not going to get offended if anybody wants to make fun of him.
Gunkid is a pathetic loser. He is ignorant, yet puffed up with pride. The man is a fool. Every Mod on this board is sick of him. Every Mod, on every gun board on the internet is sick of the man.
There are trolls, and then there are TROLLS. Gunkid is a special breed of troll, too stupid to quit, he spends hours typing out nonsense, that we then mass delete in about half a second.

NineseveN, people like him are rampant among many boards and chat rooms. They like to cause trouble, need attention, and feel safe hiding behind the anonymity of a "screen name". I've run across people like him since I got my first PC 12 years ago. The best thing that could happen is that there be some law, rule, method of eliminating this anonymity.

To be honest, when I first read the orginal post in this thread early this morning, I was going to close it and say we don't disparage other people on here much like Correia was saying. But, after thinking about it for about 47 nanoseconds, I said to myself, "but hey, it's about hardin"!!! Go for it!
Instead of closing it, I PM'e NineseveN to see if he had had a hardin sighting. Turned out to be a false alarm. But, we must be ever vigilant folks! Keep your eyes open for any signs of him - do it for the children! Are you with me??!! I knew you were.
I don't think we will ever understand Mr. John Melvin Davis (aka hardin/gunkid/shucks/dispatch ...., etc., etc.). All we can do is root him out whenever and wherever he appears, delete his blatherings and go on with life.
He needs to join the 12 step group called "On and On Anon".

I have dealt with trolls before being the admin or a MOD on a number of PC or game-related boards, but none like this one. Gunkid is something else entirely methinks. Sending me inflamatory e-mails, yet ignoring my PMs and e-mails, ignoring the rules, and spending more than 3 straight hours on the board posting utter crap...and his MO is that he comes back. He is truly a King Troll.
The funy thing is, I knew it was him on my boards since the very first post, I new it in my gut, but for the sake of proof, I had to wait until he slipped up and made one of his signature consistent typos or did a copy and paste of something he posted somewhere else that I could use to identify him. It took him only 27 posts to be banned, and to be fair, the Ban button was pushed when I read post #21, I didn't need to see the rest.
Anyway, I realize this is off-topic, sorry Mods, here I am complaining about a troll when I started an off-topic thread that is bashing Gunkid 9though he deserves it, High Road or not as far as I am concerned). Some days, my hypocrisy knows no bounds. :neener:

While some people may see it as 'thought police' to ban someone for being annoying, this is a forum belonging to private individuals. We on THR do like to have fun and kid around, one of the goals of this forum (as I understand it) it to cultivate the image of responsible gun owners.
This person (who apparently cannot legally own a gun), does not comply with this forums goals and infact could be seen as tring to undermine them. I can see no more problem with removing him than removing an agent provacetur(sp?) from a peaceful protest.
NineseveN
February 24, 2006, 12:32 PM
The problem with Gunkid is when he gets mean and insulting, which never seems to take long. His posts are so outlandish they're funny and I really laugh a ton when I read his drivel, until he gets nasty and starts giving off information that could get someone hurt or arrested. That's where the line has to be drawn. At this point, he has such a long history of not being able to comply with the rules that I can see the case for preemptively banning him as he turns up.

Optical Serenity, he has gone through hundreds of names. The only sure way to spot him is by his writing style. I used to really enjoy the gunkid episodes on the old shooters board, and a few of the ones on some other boards, but then it got old when he started spreading it on thick under multiple names. Did he really sort of invent IPSC and shoot matches in Africa? Did he draw from his pocket? Has anyone ever ordered one of his how-to-make-a-silencer books and read it? Was he really the guy in the video selling coke to Delorean? Okay, I made that up. Did he really meet Mike Tyson in prison? Oops, there I go again.

Cosine,
I read part of the thread but I got tired of reading the same old rants over and over. So I probably missed this part.
Banning his IP is the only way to keep him off of the boards. I know that it would or could cause some trouble for others but they could be un-banned. It would make more work for the mods but it would sure be worth it to get away from the gunkids, and swampfoxes and all of the other idiots out there.
Banning the user name only works for people who are basically upstanding folks who will abide by the ban. Same with gun control laws, only the law abiding will obey them.
Banning the IP is the only effective way to control people, and I use the term loosely, that act like this.

Ah-hem. That would be the perfect job for me. Of the 112 private messages I have sent or recieved, about 1/3rd are in response to me outing GunKid in his various forms here. Over at GT I developed a reputation for this aswell.
I think my record over here was after his 3rd or 4th post, and he was banned within a few minutes. THR mods ban him quicker than mods at almost any other site.
ID'ing and outing Gunkid has become almost a sport for me, except it is almost too easy.
It's too bad I am not allowed to hunt him with a rifle.

There was some question in this line of posts about banning someone's IP in order to stop them from accessing THR.
The problem with doing that is most of the home users on the internet do not have a STATIC ip.
In order to share the resources within an Internet Services Provider the IPs given to people with dial up connections and most of those with cable modem and DSL modem are temporary. A protocol called DHCP automatically requests an IP address from a pool of availalbe IP addresses controlled by the internet service provider.
If you banned one ip address out of that pool you would only harm the intended target for a short amount of time.
This violates one of the prime rules.
"Know your target and whats behind it" (joking).

This is the problem. In order to ban a user by IP one is generally left with having to ban a range of IPs. Unfortunatly that net is wide enough to catch some decent people who's only crime is sharing an ISP with a lunatic.

Gunkid is a classic beta male.
Betas are the guys who are always showing off and looking to true alpha males for approval. They're the ones bragging in the locker room about conquests. They know they can't lead with actions, so they mouth off, desperately hoping to win a glimmer of approval from the alpha males. It's kind of pathetic, really.
There's also a bit of "male answer syndrome" at work. Remember the TV show "Cheers"? The postman always had an answer for everything...even if he had to make it up off the top of his head. Y'all men are raised to provide solutions. But then some take that waaaaay too far, into the realm of high gun fantasy.

Ahhh - the wheelbarrow - I pride myself I was instrumental in helping enable that deal :D I read the original post he made about using one!!
One thing I haven't read on this quite funsome thread - is his arrogance - well I guess in part that is obvious. But the other side of that is and has been - his declared intent to write as much as he can - post what he wants - all as if he is a board owner. The big ''I am''
His posting ability (ergo ability to churn out spam from a keyboard) is legendary. It has to be some sorta condition ;)
Most of all tho - is the inflated ego - it knows no bounds! Must be great to be the web laughing stock - he obviously relishes it. ''Thick skin''? Well something is thick!:p

Whats the deal with the wheel barrow? Sounds entertaining.
Okay, the way a mod on another board explained it to me before my first encounter with Gunkid... The assault wheelbarrow is an armored wheelbarrow. Gunkid (or whatever he calls himself this week) carries an AR-15 with a "canned (= supressed) .22LR upper" with which he purportedly snipes out to 1000yds. He advocates selling drugs to finance his so-called weapon. He also sometimes would talk about floating downriver on a raft while hiding under his overturned wheelbarrow while sniping farmers and stealing their food. The assault wheelbarrow being armored, instead of being concealment, he thinks he's carrying his cover with him, plus being able to carry home all the stuff he stole. That's how I understood it.
All the while, he thinks anybody who likes a MBR in .308 or .30-06 is an idiot because according to him, 5.56 owns the 1000yd line, and in this train of thought he will be very offensive. For example, I recall the last time he showed up here... at least I think it was him... he jumped on a thread about the accuracy we get from our milsurp rifles, particularly M-14 and M1 Garand, and proceded to tell us we were stupid for shooting our .30cals while he sings the praises of the M4, presumably with a canned .22 upper. Then, when I called him on bringing purported combat mentality into a thread that only dealt with accuracy on a square range, he accused me of being scared to admit that "it is combat" otherwise I wouldn't have been using a combat rifle instead of any other rifle such as a .22 sporter. It wasn't long before a moderator came in and, borrowing a term from another poster in that thread, sprayed a big can of Troll-B-Gone. And this isn't the only time I've run into him. Once you know the clown, it's not that hard to spot an overturned assault wheelbarrow.

Found this mock eulogy over at ArmsLocker
John Melvin Davis Passed Away June 22, 2004 at age 52.
Mr.Davis died of massive shock & heart failure while watching a news announcment on TV that the U.S. military is scrapping out all their 5.56 Nato rifles and returning to the 7.62 Nato round chambered in a rifle that is a M-14/G-3/FAL hybrid design.
Mr. Davis was born on August 29, 1952, in Litchfield, Illinois.
Early on in life it was discovered Mr. Davis had several unique talents which caught the attention of school officials and even some county & state police agencies.
After serving in the US Army for a short time, the first period in a long history of public service, he returned home and started on his way to becoming self-employed.
Using his natural talents Mr. Davis set up a multi-faceted business both supplying devices to reduce noise pollution and also selling low cost medication to people in at-risk communities.
Ability like Mr.Davis's did not go unnoticed and he soon found himself employed in a special facility run by the Federal Government. He was soon put to work doing stress tests on geological formations among other special projects.
While his duties there were tiring it should be noted that he did manage to foster an indepth relationship with the local African-American community.
Thus began a fairly steady 13 1/2 year career, of employment with the Federal Government, where Mr.Davis seems to have found a home.
There were however periods in which he decided to leave their employ and work on his own again but he was pretty much drug back to work for them due to his unique talent and ability.
Such a long and intense period of service with the Federal Gov't starting at an young age allowed him to retire early with a special pension from the last institution he worked at.
However such a unique mind as Mr. Davis's would not let him to just rest in retirment. He soon begain to use the fine communication skills he developed while in gov't service to give free advice concerning the firearms ballistics & training he learned while a gov't employee.
Using the internet as his main mode of communication with others he was unfortunatly frustrated when his revolutionary ideas were accepted only by a few people. This was a interest he pursued until the end.
-------------------------------------------------------
Naw, the news arcticle read more like this:
John Melvin Davis, AKA the Gunkid, ****, 223 fan, andy and many other other names, was killed in a single vehicle accident, when his assault wheelbarrow overturned unexpectedly during a high speed maneuver. Upon the wheel barrow overturning the Victim was accidently shot when the stock of his Assault .22 hit the ground and shot him through the testicles.

Bah! Too much collateral damage. I say we take up a fund to send Skunk in, all ninja'd up and just take him out with extreme predjudice. Of course, considering Skunk's love of toys, he might not be concealable enough...so we need a distraction.... might could use Lawdog, as he seems to still be trapped in that horrible gorilla suit (hence his not finishing his latest tale.. )..
