I was at the Olin range in E. Alton last night shooting my .45 Hi-Point and S&W 22A.

I was having more misfires with my 22A then normal, seems like every other round went click instead of bang. When I put the round back in most of them fired.

I shot two boxes of the HV Super X they have at the range, and shot some of the bulk pack Win Xpert 22 HP they sell at Walmart.

I'm think I need to clean the gun, but else could it be?

Giving the chamber a cleaning wouldn't be a bad idea. Many .22's don't seat the bolt very firmly so if it's gunked up it might not be seated correctly.

Or, if it was only with one type of ammo you could have an issue with that brand's primers not working well for that particular pistol.

I had the same types of problems when I first started shooting my 22A, thought it was dirty. I cleaned it at the range to no avail. I tried quite a few different kinds of ammo, and finally settled on Federal Premium Gold Medal Target. Its performed flawlessly since, the only downside to the inexpensive price was its likeness for expensive ammo.

My 22A missfired also.
It doesn't like cheap ammo.
Never misfires with premium ammo
Federal Classic High Velocity is most reliable and most accurate in my 22A.:)

Is it time to replace the plastic buffer?Mine gets tempermental when it needs a new one.S&W customer service will send you a few if you call.

Well I did buy a spare spring and buffer when I brought this. Only if I can find them.

I shoot at a Olin range so I have shoot Winchester ammo there.

check the firing pin channel, that gets gunked up and has given mine probs in the past. worth a quick look :)

I'll do that. I have clean this gun the last couple of time I went shooting.

On the ones you tried the second time was there a good dent on the rim from the firing pin? If not its the gun, if there is its the ammo. if you can find an empty that whet click the first time and bang the second time comparing the firing pin marks will let you know for sure if its the gun or ammo.

My M22A so far really loves the cheap stuff -- Federal Champion ($7/500 at Academy) and Remington Golden Bullet bulk pak ($8/525 at Academy). Only problem I have is some of my mags seem to bind and not feed the second shot. First shot fed from slide lock is fine then often I get click on an empty chamber. Dropping the mag slowly, shows the rounds have bound and not moved to the top. A tap or a pull and release on the loading nub brings them into positon and it never has a problem emptying the rest of the mag. Frequency seem to be reducing with shooting but its annoying.

Come to think of it, there were some good dents on the rims on first and second stikes. But it does seems I was getting more misfires then I ussally do.

I've found bad .22 ammo to run in streaks. One brick of the cheap stuff might have 10 or 20 no-bangs most that'll go with a second hit (on a different part of the rim) and a few true duds that just seem to have fogotten the primer compound -- maybe the machine was running low :) The next few bricks might be perfect.

I have a Ruger MkII that was developing a habit of mis-fires. After lots of trial and error I tracked it down to the firing pin, rebound spring and its plunger. The combination was not always returing the firing pin to where the hammer could give it a good smack. Replaced all three parts and its been as good as .22 cheap ammo gets. I could clearly see weak or no dimples on the rim. At first I assumed it was a not quite fully seated bolt cushioning the blow, and since cleaning helped a lot, I was ultimately led astray and next tried a new recoil spring and hammer spring (real PITA to change on a Ruger!) next.
