Help!

I fired my new Springfield 1911-A1 today. It shoots just a little to the left, but I can fix that. Took it apart and cleaned it up. It came apart just great.

Everything went back together again nicely until I went to put the slide stop back. There is a small spring loaded pin just under the disassembly notch above the left-hand grip. I see it in the parts breakdown as Slide Stop Plunger. How do I get the slide stop to slip back into place past this pin.
I've never owned a 1911, never encountered this pin before. I appreciate any assistance.:banghead:

Beware the dreaded idiot mark. That plunger had caused many idiot marks to appear on new 1911's.

Begin to push the slide stop in. Have a small punch ready to depress the plunger as the slide stop contacts it. Go slowly and carefully. It should get easier as the gun gets broken in a little.

I use an empty .45 casing to depress the plunger,or the tip of the blade on my Swiss Army knife I keep in the cleaning/disassembly kit. Swing the slide stop up and in,and presto! No unsightly marks.
