Do you carry your gun in church?

DETROIT - A man opened fire at a church service Sunday, killing an 18-year-old woman and wounding her child before shooting another man outside, according to police and broadcast reports.

Second Deputy Police Chief James Tate confirmed that three people were shot, one fatally, at Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church, about 11 a.m.

The child did not have life-threatening injuries, WWJ-AM reported. The third victim, who was shot when trying to protect his wife from a carjacking attempt by the shooter, was in critical condition, the station said.

Church members helped police identify a suspect, Tate said. Officers were looking for Kevin Lorenzo Collins, 24, who is considered armed and dangerous.

The shooting was the result of a domestic dispute, Tate said.

“Church had begun, and shots rang out,” he said. After summoning help, church members continued the service.

“They didn’t let this incident stop the reason why they came to church,” he said. “They came to worship.”

Bad situation with bad results.

You have to be 21 to get a CPL in Michigan, and have permission from the "presiding official" to legally carry in a Church in Michigan:

Act 372 of 1927 Section 28.425o Premises on which carrying concealed weapon prohibited; “premises” defined; exceptions to
subsection (1);

(e) Any property or facility owned or operated by a church, synagogue, mosque, temple, or other place of worship, unless the presiding official or officials of the church, synagogue, mosque, temple, or other place of worship permit the carrying of concealed pistol on that property or facility.
I doubt the "officials" would have let anyone carry in the church even knowing that one of the congregation was in danger from a current/former boyfirend/husband.

I hope they catch the mutt.

Tower, in MO you also need such permission.

I (as a presiding officer) give it freely. I'm packing on my own person, and I like the idea of backup. This morning, I believe there were 3 of us armed.

If I went to church, yes I would carry.

Another church shooting. Another conspicuous absence of divine interention preventing same. Also absent were legions of angels to protect the congregation.

If I went to church, I'd carry. Not even a question, as far as I am concerned. This is the second church shooting that I am aware of in the last three years, at least in this area.

That's why we switched churches........

It still bothers me that my father, who's in his early 80's, still goes to some of the old historic churches in Detroit, and doesn't normally carry anymore. :banghead:

Seems like there was a discussion a couple weeks ago on pretty much the same line...and one member was fairly horrified that anyone would pack heat in church.

Yeah...It was a one on one thing that resulted in one victim dead, and not much anyone could have done to stop it. The issue is that...some of the
perpetrators of these things go completely haywire after the initial act, and take hostages for the ensuing standoff...or just figure that they don't have anything to lose and start shooting folks at random...maybe saving the last round for themselves.

Life comes atcha fast. So does death, sometimes...and it can come in places that you'd least expect it. You don't have to be on the wrong side of town to find yourself up to your skivvies in alligators.
