Gold is the most corrosion-resistant metal, AFAIK. The plating was done for purely practical reasons. I'm sure. :D

The reason behind all these gold plated guns, is that in the middle east and arabic countries, there is a long history of giving gifts.
Especially golden knifes and swords.
This has translated into giving firearms.
It is usually not something for shooting with, but for showing that you are serious about your business relationship.
I know I would like if people I come in contact with would give me guns to seal a deal. :cool:
