Yep, they're coming. I have some on order. I was able to reserve 2 of the first 1,000 and I've already sold those and will be on the list for more as they ship. Any dealer who is Sig direct can get them, so it isn't like Impact is the only game in town.

I wish they would have just produced the original 550 in semi-auto for US consumption. It's alot sleeker looking.

I agree that they definetly shoulve kept the original look. The forearm looks very...bulky.
That said, kicka$$!

Yeah, the original is a lot sleeker looking. They'll probably sell all they can build, but it looks kinda' "bubba tacti-cooled" to me.

I wish they had a chrome lined barrel.
In my opinion, bemoaning that a rifle lacks a chrome lined barrel is making much ado about nothing.
Literally MILLIONS of older military arms came equipped without chrome lined barrels, and many of them still sport bores that are totally acceptable for accuracy.
The MAIN motivation for using chrome lining is to make the rifle more tolerant to lack of maintenance. For most civilian shooters who value their firearms, this should be a non-issue, as firearm maintenance is normally performed anyhow.

Yup, this news came out a few weeks before SHOT show -- where you been man? :o) -- funny thing is, SIG probably did everything right. Used AR compatible buttstock, forearm, mags, but a lot of people are ragging on them because of those decisions. A lot of people would have ragged on them if they would have left them "original" also because they wouldn't be able to accessorize them.

I would love that as my first combat rifle but I could still buy 2 VEPR for that price.

HK needs to make civilian rifles, like the G36.

I'd also like to see a chrome lined barrel. It may not be necessary, but it's definitely nice to have.

Chrome is a good thing if available but it ain't a deal breaker.
I just wish it was styled after the original 550. long barrel, sleek 'n sexy exterior, beautiful sights.
This mall ninja-fication gig just doesn't do it for me... :(

So will this rifle accept the original furniture?
Or would that be too many non US made parts :banghead:

It should be able to take original AR-15 solid stocks if it takes the m-4 stocks, right?
They definetly did it right by having it take AR mags!

It may not look as sleek as the 550, but from everything I've read it will be quite a bit lighter, and there are a lot of functional advantages of the AR-type stock. It's adjustable, which is handy if you wear heavy clothes in the winter, unlike the original folder.
I think SIG got this one right.

Yes, it will take original furniture, so you can put whatever you want on it. The US part count is not an issue, this gun isn't imported so 922r regs do not apply. You can put whatever you want on it.
Sig also stated the mag well can be modified easily to accept real 550 mags, tho I fail to see why you'd want to....slower and more expensive.

somone said it on another forum, but it bears repeating: I wanted a Sig to be a Sig, not a Sig trying to be an AR.

Yeah, alot of people are whining about that. Nothing stopping you from buying one of the real ones that came in prior to '89. Don't wanna cough up $8-10k?? Then buy the Sig556, put some Swiss Arms furniture on it, and there's your "real" sig for thousands and thousands less than the real thing.
I find it odd that so many people enjoy modding up their rifles, buying stock ARs and FAL's and then set about dressing them up with upgrades. Sig releases the 550 here stateside, and people are mad that it's not stock.
I don't think folks would be happy no matter what the market fed them.

Here's the thing: I've got an AR. I keep it plane, I don't dress it up. I have my reasons, mostly relating to the fact that I can't talk myself into buying an EO/or ACOG or any other nifty doodads based on the fact that I can barely use my irons. I'll never begrudge those that do, an I hope they get every pennies worth of mileage outta all their add-ons. I admire those people. They're more serious about there AR's then I hope I'll ever have to be, and they produce some beautiful weapons.
So what's it going to take to sell someone like me a new rifle? Well, quality, accuracy, and reliability are all big selling points. From what I know of Sig, they are all of this and more. But it also has to be different. It needs to be something I don't have quite yet. It needs to be a departure from something I might have. Sig has the chance here. By making it more "old school" or traditional, they could have cornered the market on the aesthetic and produced something that placed them outside of the pack. Of course, the reverse argument could be made, after all AR's sell real well. All I'm saying is that because this looks/feels no different then what I've already got it goes into the same category as Bushmaster/Colt/DPMS/RRA when it could be something different, and possibly give me a reason to buy one.
(All of that being said, I understand that if I had the money I would probably pick up one of these in after an M1A, GA Precision Rock, all manner of scopes and optics, books, and more importantly fly off to the four corners of the country to get trained and actually some day be good at shooting a rifle  but being subject to limited funds, the above logic must apply to my situation.)

It's also an important point worth remembering. The gun isn't even on the shelves yet. Isn't it premature to gripe that it's not a certain way or exactly as you want it? Give Sig time to make revisions - that's what most gun makers have done.
It's not like Colt made the SP1, and never made another AR or configuration. Sig will likely watch the market, and release what people want. I TOTALLY understand making it "AR-like" initially, from a LEO/pracitcality standpoint. Use what's familiar to everyone, what works, mags and controls that aren't foreign and use the 550 action.....but retain the ability to go back to 55X furniture or mags. Brilliant, IMHO even if like everyone else I prefer the traditional Swiss decor I still understand why they came out of the box with all the AR/AW stuff on it.
If everyone hammers them about a traditional rifle variant, it stands to reason they'll listen and respond.
I would love to have the "old style" 550, but I completely appreciate giving it a facelift. In many areas, the old 55X furniture is outmoded. Folding stocks don't work so well with body armor, different statures, etc. A collapsible makes sense. Incorporating rails from the outset, competely smart. AR-drop free mags, much faster than the "rock in" AK style, and again completely natural for law enforcement and professionals.
I'll own the new style 556, and an "old style" one. They are both "different" than AR's where it really matters, the innards. That's reason enough to get excited, I think.

That's awfully busy-looking. Just look at all those little ridges and thingies and nooks and crannies to clean dust out of.
And for $1300! Naaah...I think the AR looks nicer. Cleaner lines, more "carry this through hell and back", less "Hi, I'm a mall ninja". :D

The asthetic differences aren't much of a concern to me.
