Hottest cheap plinking ammo?

I like to practice with affordable ammo that's fairly hot, because I prefer to use +P loads for self defense.

Are there any cheap plinking rounds that are a little bit hotter than the usual run of the mill FMJ stuff? Thinking specifically about .45 Auto, but also .357 Magnum. How's S&B, Fiocci, American Eagle, etc.?

I've heard Fiocchi is loaded a little hotter than your standard plinking ammo, but I don't have any proof to back that up.

S&B seems a little hotter especially the .357 mag 158gr.

UMC .357 has a nice bang and flash. Real nice.

In 9mm, Fiocchi is definitely loaded hotter than the U.S. loaded, Non-NATO, Non +P ammo.

Fiocchi is great stuff and is loaded hot.

S&B is dirty but also hot.

There may still be some Hirtenberger floating around for cheap, it's loaded +p or +p+.

Yea, I just saw a deal on the Hirtenbirger in a catalogue from a place called HQ Surplus, I think (sorry, I pitched the catalogue). Something like 135$ for 1200 rounds; the stuff was billed as 124 gr. at 1299 fps :uhoh:

Thought that sounded just a touch hot for ordinary playtime.

You could also get the Greek Olympic stuff at ammoman.com. I believe it's NATO spec--124 gr. @ 1200 fps--for $119/1000 shipped, last time I checked (on sale). That's a whale of a deal.

I don't OWN a 9mm, though.

.45 Yes, .357, planning on getting one. Still, good info for anyone who does have a 9mm.

PMC and Black Hills are stout.

Time to buy a loader it sounds like.

Blazer is a fairly warm, and cheap, plinking ammo. It also happens to be very accurate in most guns. YMMV, etc., etc.

S&B is definately the hottest of the really cheap stuff. Fiochi is hot too, but not so cheap.
