I have a couple of Win 94 trappers that I'm debating on scoping. I'm admitting that my middle aged eyes are having problems with iron sights - yes even peeps. I want to keep the rifle as easy to carry as possible - shots limited to 100 yds. I was thinking about the Leupold m-8 2.5x20 compact. Any comments or other possibilities?

You could try the Weaver K2.5 or K4 - small, simple, fixed-power scopes that should work just fine at the ranges you'll be shooting at. You could also install an Express Sights Scout scope mounting rail for a forward-mounted scope. You could then use either the Leupold or Burris Scout scopes (although they're not cheap), or could mount a pistol scope if you can get the correct eye relief.

I had one of the A.O. Scout mounts on my Trapper and wasnt real happy with it. Really takes the handiness out of the rifle, not that a standard mount wont either. I have a Savage Scout and do like the forward mounted scope. Its fast and easier to shoot quickly with. If your going to go with a standard mount, I'd go with something like the Leupold 1.5x5. I have one on a flat top AR and at 1.5x, its pretty quick to to snap shoot with. Its also a fairly small scope. Downside is, it costs more then the Trapper. You dont say what caliber your Trapper is. I've had a 44 and now have a 45, both with peeps. The one I have now is a A.O. ghostring. It works well, is fast and doesnt take away from the looks or handiness of the rifle. I dont really consider it to be much more than a 50 yard gun anyway, so even with my middle aged eyes, its not a problem.

I have a Winchester 94 Trapper in .357, 16 inch barrel with the Ashley Express Ghost Ring set up. It works well out to 75 yards or so with my glasses and is light and handy.

After looking, I found that no scope set up worked well with this rifle. They all looked and worked like and afterthought.

If you really need a scope, I suggest you check out the Marlins. They are designed for scope mounts.

I think the Leupold you mentioned is an excellent choice. Perhaps you could also go with a Leupold "shotgun" scope with the heavy duplex. That should be fine across your rifle's effective range.
