How about it, troops? There must be some of you with a TC Patriot.I'm looking at Traditions Knock-off of the same piece, they call it the Trapper, for a lady-friend, [so I don't have to build her one!], does any-one have any info?

Had a .45 Patriot back in the 1970s, used it exclusively for target shooting. Light trigger due to set triggers. Did OK with gun, but traded it off for some reason that I can't remember. Mine shot no more accurately than my Ruger Old Army. TC stopped making them quite a while ago. Can't comment on the Traditions knock off. Have you looked at the Lyman Plains Pistol?

All I can say is good luck. The TC Patriot Pistol (it came in .45 caliber) is somewhat in the province of collectors now. The reason TC is not making this little gem is the factory that made them and the TCR 83/Aristocrat Rifle (forerunner of the Encore) was destroyed by fire spare parts included.
Any Patriot pistols (or TCR 83) in use and a part breaks DONOT send it to Thomson Center for repair. They will only give you a "gift certificate" towards another TC firearm.

I am keeping mine, but I will give you a free bump.
I bought mine in the late 70s, early 80s when I was too young to buy a modern cartridge handgun. I had the patriot and an Old Army. I had a few .22 pistols that my dad gave me but nothing centerfire.

I had my stock replaced in August of '85 according to the postmark on the box. I was a kid and was firing heavy charges out of it: stock split.:uhoh:

The Patriot is hard to come by these days.
I have a patriot and a Traditions Trapper. I have not yet got around to firing either one but here are a few comparisions.
The patriot is a 45 caliber percussion lock with a slightly unusual set trigger that works in set mode ONLY, and has the two triggers reversed in position to most others. It has a fully adjustable rear sights and glint shields around the front sight wich is a good square black target type.
The Trapper is a 50 and avaiable as either a percussion or flint lock. It has a standard type set trigger wit hboth modes. The rear sight is adjustable for elevation but must be drifted for windage. The front sight is a brass blade.
I would say the patriot is the better made of the two but it's more nearly a pure target pistol with the single mode trigger. (Mine has a VERY light trigger.) The Trapper is a more general purpose type and much easier to find.

I have two T/C Patriot pistols. In the pre-internet days you could find used ones for sale in New Hampshire for under $200. I also have a Traditions .50 and to compare the two guns is comparing prime rib to cube steak.
The boys still shoot the Patriots and neither is for sale. I'd be glad to get rid of the Traditions.
