Detective special...price OK?

$365 is the asking price. 3rd gen., nickel plated, original wood grips on a square butt, locks up very tight (thank-you Jim March!), heavy, course DA trigger-pull, very clean and shiny. Checking Guns-America, AuctionArms, et. al. has taught me that people have wide and varied opinions about what these guns are worth! So do I grab it and run or haggle?

i would grab and run, the DS is my favorite gun of all time. for what they go for around here (if you can even find them for sale), it seems like a fair price.

in the pgh pa area they usually go for about $300 neighborhood. i've seen several offered for substantially more, but usually on consignment from an owner that got his price from a bad source. you know, the my rusty, shot out arminius is rare in this country because my uncle said so, put $750 on it.

a while back i picked up a early issue long but [there's a term for you] model with nearly perfect finish, nice trigger and tight lockup for $310. i took it home and put a nice set of ivory grips on it and now it's matched up with my combat commander, also with grips from the same tusk. beautiful pair of older colts.

I was at an auction last weekend, and they sold one that had holster wear for 400.00. My neifgbor got 475.00 for his. I would say it is a great deal.

I've purchased two Detective Specials within the last year or so. I'd say the benchmark price for one in NIB condition is $500. I have no idea if that will help answer your question. :)

I've developed a case of the cheapies since this post. I just can't justify the purchase right now. :( For those in the B'ham area who might be interested, I found it at JoJo's Gun and Pawn on Crestwood Blvd. Let me know if you get it!
