Looking at a friend's carbine, noticed that the trigger assembly fits a bit loosely; where the back end fits into the receiver there's some play. Anyone know if there's an 'approved' way to tighten this up? Or is this the normal fit and should be left alone?

If I understand your question correctly and your rear action screw is tight and the trigger housing is loose, then I would put a small amount of beeding compound in the wood cut out to cure the problem. Suggest a Brownells Glassbedding Kit and follow their directions...don't forget to use the release agent.

With this rifle, there's a slot in the rear of the receiver at the bottom; the trigger assembly has a 'T' that slides into it, and that's where the play is.

I've never messed with one of these before, so I don't know if the play should be there and the stock being tight to the sides resolves this.

Ok, I was just advised that when you lock a magazine in, the trigger assembly is nice & tight. So it appears that nothing needs adjusting in that respect.

Ah, the things you learn...
