I won't say rare, as this word is much over used. This was found in 95% plus condition in a local pawnshop. 525 out the door. It has a nice walnut stock
and is blued. My question to the Remington experts- is this one of the
less common calibers in this model?

Yes indeed, it's one of the less common calibers. In 1983 when the Model Seven was introduced, .222 Remington was an available caliber. However, it was deleted from the lineup in 1984 and replaced with the .223 Remington due to it's increasing popularity. Lucky you, you've scored a true gem. Basic handloading of the .222 Remington will give you comparable ballistics to the .223 Remington.

Personally, I like the Model Seven for it's handiness. The Model 673, a child of the Model Seven, is a beloved piece of iron as well.

Now, you'll have to find yourself a Model 600 Mohawk .222 to accompany that Model Seven. :)
