Who does a decent & reasonable Meltdown?

Anybody know of a shop to do a decent and reasonably priced meltdown on a stainless Officers ACP?

My handgun had an unpleasant meeting with some pavement, and I figure that I may as well get the full meltdown to get rid of the gouges. I'd rather not double the price of the gun though.

If I was in your position and the pistol in question was a staniless steel model (which it apparently is) I would go to a good hardware store and buy a couple of files, some wood dowels, and some sheets of emery paper. Thereafter I would "melt" the edges and corners exactly the way *I* wanted while carefully removing the "street damage." This would take some time and effort, but the cost would be very reasonable.

The only people who do a "Meltdown" is Clark Custom Guns (they have the term trademarked). Everyone else is forced to call it something else (usually "dehorning").

Clark does an excellent job, and they know it (which will be evident when you get the bill). Cylinder & Slide also does a good job.

Ah...thanks for the heads up on the trademark. Guess I meant "dehorning." Thought about doing it myself since I'm fairly mechanical, but I'm not that patient. Afraid I'd make it worse.

He's going to do my 38 Super Commander in a month or two.

Talk to Ted Yost in Chino Valley AZ. He just did my Colt 1991 5" and it came out spectacularly. I told him I wanted a faint melting to preserve my holster (kydex).

By the time I got the gun back, I had completely forgotten about requesting a meltdown. It took me almost two days before I realized he had relieved the edges! Talk about a fantastic job, he took off the sharp corners without destroying the classic lines and it looks great.

I'd definitely recommend Ted for the job. You might even look into having him to a general tune-up if you're piece is old enough.
